TYPE IN ANY 3-DIGIT NUMBER AND THE WORDS "NEW CASES" (no quotations marks needed) ON GOOGLE

Found this on Twitter:

Type in any 3-digit number on google search with the words "new cases" (no quotation marks) and watch what pops up.

It doesn't matter what number you pick. I actually tried some four digit numbers and also the number 2. Same results.

The results will be "___ new cases of covid reported .... blah blah blah."

I can understand that "new cases" would bring up covid cases, but ANY number?

Just saying..... Try it for yourself.

No kidding!

This is part of the marketing nonsense in google search.

Why wouldn’t it. The way the tracking is going, state, county, city, zip code, national, regional, global. Pretty much any number will have been tied to new cases at some level.

So all that tells you is that google knows about that particular obsession you have. That IS their business model, you know.

Maybe you should not be so free and easy? On a cell phone, fuggedaboudit. On your PC, use a safer browser, and delete cookies frequently.

no it worked for me initially for about 30 tries and then I paused to post to FR. However when I returned after a few minutes it stopped working. It seems likely an inadvertent consequence of search results customization, as all of the results were news organizations configured to generate customized results based on search term.

Just demonstrating why you can't trust the news on the web. Really.

Probably yet another hallmark of the impending doom of technological civilization, HHOS - demonstrating the L term of the Drake equation.

Google throws away what it can’t use, so you are left with i “new cases”.

I tried the same thing in Bing. One of the first 3 results always has the exact same formula, “XXX Reports nnn new COVID-19 cases, nn deaths.” XXX is usually a city, county, or state in the US, but not always. The nn value for deaths is variable, but 11 seems popular.

I just used 312, 708, 847, 815, 217 (all Illinois phone area codes) with "new cases" after them and each one came up with references for number of google cases.

ROFL!!!
