The Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams on Sunday urged residents to not call 911 to report the skyrocketed use of illegal fireworks that have overwhelmed the city as some view them as a form of nonviolent protests. Americans in other cities have been kept up all through the night by the sound of booming fireworks for the past three weeks. New Yorkers, gripped with tension since the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic and volatile clashes over police brutality, has discovered a new way to express their frustrations: setting off scores of booming fireworks into the wee hours of the morning each night.

The ones pictured aren’t cheap M80’s.
Where are they getting those?
[shrug] You can break almost any law you want — as long as you say its a non-violent protest.
Here in Houston, can I claim that my refusal to wear a mask to the grocery store is my form of “non-violent protest” against the County Judge’s abuse of her power?
After checking the color of my skin, I think I know the answer.
It’s the month before the July 4.
The last few years, the anti-fireworks people have gotten a little too cocky and developed unreasonable expectations.
Independence Day means fireworks. Always has.
These people have stepped up their game. When I was growing up in suburbia NYC the most explosive firework available on the black market was the M80.
Is a citizen militia considered a “community response” ?
Yeah, some idiots have been “serenading” the neighborhood with loud firecrackers for about 2 weeks now. They usually start about 10 p.m. and go until midnight. I am not only annoyed at these constant booms (considering today’s ANTIFA climate, I fear they could be masking gunshots in an otherwise peaceful neighborhood), but I hope peoples’ pets are not driven crazy by them. I doubt the police would even respond to calls about the firecrackers.
NY needs to burn.
Its not that I want it - its rather that they have built for themselves a seemingly uniform society of self-indulgence, racial victimhood, entitlement and bitter resentment in politics. I see no other way for them to change their thinking unless they experience very negative and direct consequences of it.
volatile clashes over police brutality
You have to use a Leftist-speak translator here: rioting and looting to rip off free sh*t
These cities won’t change until they get hit with massive court damages for fires and/or personal injury caused by their refusal to support the law. What other aspects of the Fire Code is Mayor are they planning to disregard in order to appease the lawless?
Likely Pennsylvania.
I actually dont feel sorry for New Yorkers, because the place is full of screeching lefties that will cancel you in a... well... New York minute. The sleep deprivation is not going to improve things and my advice would be to learn to differentiate between the fireworks and gunfire, and report the gunfire. Do NOT soundproof or your streets will never be safe again. I would hope they remember this the next time they elect a mayor and governor, but I have few illusions.
On July 4, 2008, my father-in-law had a heart attack. My wife and I were sitting with him in the ER when another patient was rushed in next to us. Through the curtain we could hear them working on him. He died. I found out later that his neighbor’s fireworks, either by accident or on purpose, had gotten fired into his yard where his family was having a barbecue. He went over to discuss it with the neighbor and the neighbor shot him. As crazy as some people are these days, personal or community responses might be ill-advised.
Seems to be more so that any protest by non-whites is automatically tagged by white liberals as non-violent allowing the participants to break any law.
Does that include not calling 911 if those fireworks cause fires?
Illegal doesn’t mean squat today. Unless you are conservative...
Assuming that fireworks vendors probably accept. EBTs
Considering the irresponsibility of so many people in all that’s going on, couldn’t “responsible community response” to some of this consist of taking the bull by the horns & forcibly stopping by whatever means the offenders? After all, the offenders are certainly not within the letter of the law & the police can’t/won’t respond. What’s that leave but vigilante justice?
