William S. Sessions, a director of the F.B.I. under three presidents, from 1987 to 1993, who challenged racial and gender bias in his agency but struggled to redefine its mission in a time of domestic turmoil, and who was fired after being accused of ethical lapses, died on Friday in San Antonio. He was 90.

I remember 1987-1993 very well. If that was what constitutes a turbulent time, then we’re in hell in right now.
Back in 2005 I was taking a lunch break in DC when I found myself sharing the sidewalk with Director Sessions. He was very friendly - we jaywalked at a traffic light as a car turned right and almost hit us.
I told him “You should have known better, being in law enforcement”. He chuckled.
