Democrat Georgia State Rep. Vernon Jones announced he would be introducing a new bill that would make it a “hate crime” to assault someone based on their actual or perceived political party, and that includes Trump supporters.Rep. Jones tweeted that he's seen “countless” examples of attacks on the president's supporters.

While, on principle, I will never support any Dem, I must give Mr. Jones kudos for fundamental decency.
The physical attack is the crime. Hate crime is another name for thought crime. Lots of historical evidence exists of how governments have abused such power. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, yet there they were!
The lack of civil rights cases in regards to those attacks have been interesting. Cast your gaze upon the lawyers, folks. Many lawyers have also incited and participated in the riots.

Agreed. No more hate crime laws. Repeal the old ones. Attacking someone is a crime. Making it a whole new crime because of the thoughts in their head is thoughtcrime!
Why should it make a difference whether a man beats another man because of the color of his skin or because of some perceived or imagined slight? He wasn’t injured because of the thoughts in the head of the man doing the beating, but by the fists of the man doing the beating. Charge based on what his fists did; not based on what his mind thought!
