Judge orders 2017 MLB letter to Yankees unsealed; plaintiffs say it details sign stealing

A New York judge ruled on Friday that a letter sent by Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred to the Yankees addressing the findings of a 2017 investigation into the team should be unsealed.

MLB and the Yankees may submit a minimally redacted version of the letter “to protect the identity of the individuals mentioned” by noon ET on Monday, as part of the proceedings in a lawsuit brought against the league by daily fantasy sports contestants in the wake of the sign-stealing scandals in Houston and Boston. The Yankees argue the letter would cause “significant reputational injury,” Judge Jed Rakoff said in his order, and the letter is not to be unsealed until June 19, so the team has enough time to make an emergency appeal. People with knowledge of the case said it is likely the Yankees will do so.

“There is no justification for public disclosure of the letter,” Jonathan Schiller, a lawyer representing the Yankees (said)...

Gamblers are outraged about cheating in baseball. Outraged!.

Maybe my fantasy WWE lawsuit will finally go through and I'll be able to get their scripts entered into evidence.

Signs are unfair to the opposing team.

It comes from a time when America’s pass time was Baseball but our betters have decided that we must be locked down.

A century ago the crowd may have worn masks but they still played ball.

75 years ago while many Americans were fighting Fascists in Europe (for all the marbles) they still played ball (well some players went into the service but baseball was still played professionally).

Something else that I had not realized was not operating was a thing called the “NBA” — apparently a bunch of glandular deformed negro gentlemen throwing a rock at each other. I believe it stands for No Brains Atall.

The only reason I know the term is some sort of threat for them to continue not to do what they have not been doing to absolutely nobody’s consternation nor even concern/care.

That tends to happen when you are a cheater. Personally I think stealing signs should not be considered cheating anyway if the other team is so sloppy as to show their cards. Its just good intel.

Come on FRiends, the pandemic is over it is time for a new season and we met the 2nd quarter FReepathon goal.

Stealing signs is a time-honored part of baseball. It is perfectly legit for an offensive player on 2nd base to try and steal signs. That’s why signs are changed in those circumstances. A batter trying to steal signs by looking back at the catcher risks enjoying a little ‘chin music’.

But putting someone not in uniform in center field with binoculars and radio communications to the dugout or clubhouse is considered cheating.

What is an “MLB?”

"Middle Linebacker", although it is also used in reference to an obsolete sport.

This is just a distraction from the travesty of major league baseball — as with other “professional” sports — where most of the executives and many of the managers and players, still irrationally afraid of germs months after the “peak”, continue to act like scared little b!tches rather than men ... professionally trained and extraordinarily healthy athletes no less. It’s really quite depressing to watch behavior like this.

I heard that they were using cursive for their signs and they imported home schoolers to steal their signs.
