A day after arriving at the International Space Station on SpaceXs Crew Dragon capsule, NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken laid claim to a U.S. flag that symbolizes Americas capability to send people to orbit from U.S. soil.
The handkerchief-sized flag, sealed in a plastic envelope, has been kept aboard the space station since 2011, when NASAs final space shuttle crew left it behind before making their departure aboard Atlantis.
It was displayed above the Harmony modules hatch - and, for a time, stored in an equipment bag, nearly forgotten - with instructions that it was to be taken back to Earth by the next crew launched from NASAs Kennedy Space Center.
That moment finally came on Sunday, when Hurley and Behnken floated through the Harmony hatch after their launch 19 hours earlier.
Two other angles add to the significance of the moment. The flag first flew into space on the very first flight of the space shuttle program, back in 1981. And among the members of the crew who left it on the station in 2011 was Hurley, who was Atlantis pilot back then and is now spacecraft commander for the SpaceX capsule.

Smear? Don’t get your panties in a wad dear-I saw their spacesuits in earlier photos when the flags weren’t visible. Lay down the crack pipe.
Lol! “Pooped over the thread”.
Cracking me up.
All of it.
:-)
I'm not that interested.
So that emblem on the right side of their suits is a what?
See image in post 7 and look closely at colored thing on shoulder
Wonder if they can see the fires from up there.

It was sarcasm aimed at a poster for not noticing the flag patch and then criticizing them for not having one. Nothing to do with Satanic crap.
A postage stamp of a flag. Compare it to flags used in initial launches.
Now we quibble.
No, you are quibbling.
First you or some one complained that they had no flag patch, when I pointed out that they did have a patch and was visible in the posted image then you or someone complained it was smaller than the Apollo patch and that’s quibbling about the size.
What poster was that you targeted?
Don’t you have anything else to do but quibble over a mistake? Is it really that important?
