If you want to defend yourself, you can’t just wave a sword around. You actually have to seriously injure *anyone* who comes within range. I have a feeling the result would have been similar if he had wielded a gun. And with a sword, the standoff distance is literally within arm’s length, so there’s very little room for error, if you’re not slicing away.

Mistake to have used a sword.
I’d wager that even if he’d had no sword, merely a phone videorecording the theft, they’d have assaulted him with lethal intent.
I doubt that the sword was the provocation for the attack.
But some people on twitter are saying that the store owner got what he deserved for attempting to attack them.
As they did yesterday when a woman in a wheelchair was assaulted.
That’s how it looked to me.
Sword didn’t afford him needed protection.
The public is not going to just put up with this and there will be tragedies on all sides..
This is not going to get better by ignoring it any more than some guy who beats his wife being able to be influenced by the wife complying with his demands. He will only make newer demands. That is how this goes.
Poor man, I hope he’s alright and gets justice.
He was a skinny thing that probably had no idea how to use a sword. Too many movies and video games. I’m about his size and I would not even be in a city tonight, my business be damned.
