Usually liberals are inured and hardened to the truth and that, in great measure, accounts for their twisted world view. It's all about the narrative in an anything goes world.
But try this experiment with the older liberals. Ask them to take the red pill so they might chance a different view of their life. Ask them to consider three things.
1. They play at being radical, play at being elitist without it being grounded in reality. They are usually quite conservative in real life: family, job, pay taxes, married, etc. They pretend at being the radical or belonging in the elite -- but it's all entertainment value.
2. Perhaps they hate conservatives because they hate their conservative dad. This is the Chris Matthews story. This is projecting and misdirecting, but it happens a lot in life. Somebody might be an a**hole, but it may have absolutely nothing to do with their political views. Don't mistake the person for the politics.
3. Ask if their love of socialism is really based on the love of the poor, or is it based on the hatred and envy of the rich. If they say love of the poor, ask if they volunteer at food banks and community shelters? They probably don't and don't even tip their waitresses much. A lot of it is based on hatred and envy.
Much of the people on the left that I know play at pretend. They flatter themselves that they are in the academic and cultural elite but never really move in those circles. They moralize and virtue signal and, just like the real elites, they want to feel powerful and important. Most of it is about feeling good, feeling superior and virtuous without taking any action. It's all play and pretend time.
Those aren’t liberals, they are pretty much extinct except for like Alan Dershowitz

True. I don’t count many people I know as friends. None, I mean none are liberal. The way the term friend is used leaves me out of most conversations about friends. If I can’t sleep while they drive the truck I’m in, trust is lacking. If there’s no trust? They ain’t a friend. IMHO

I know plenty of liberals who live as conservatives—belief in hard work, education, paying taxes etc. I ask them would they like to see the US go the way of Venezuela with everything they’ve worked for taken from them? They usually dodge the question and talk about Scandinavia.
I know one in particular who hated her late father, at least outwardly a conservative, who let her stepmother grossly mistreat her.
Then there are the airhead types (more often women lacking any scientific knowledge) who believe in crystal power, sitting under tetrahedrons, etc. who also buy into anything said on MSDNC (MSNBC) and Clinton Network News (CNN), the late night unfunny comics, or the View.
