I remember her from 2006 movie BLACK BOOK...
It was a World War 2 movie...It was about Dutch Resistance during the war...Her character, a Jewish woman, fell in love with the German officer...The movie starts with a scene in Israel...She meets her old friend who came to Israel with her Canadian husband...The old friend married the Canadian soldier who was part of the Canadian army which occupied Netherlands after the German surrender...
She was nude very frequently in that movie...
I think some of you watched GAME OF THRONES on HBO?
I can see the thought bubble now. "Golly. Should I take my top off or should I continue collecting a paycheck? I'll ask myself again later."
[She is done with nudity for herself, however]
#TooLate
PoundMeToo has done sooooo much for the women’s movement.
I missed the whole GOT series; shame on me.
she’s like Eva Green from James Bond etc. She’s nude or in sex scenes right afterwards and the ending where she, the red witch, dies walking into the snow, was “needed”. If she had any clout on set, she would have said “why cant you just CGI me melting?”
> “In retrospect, I thought, ‘Why did that scene have to be nude? Why was that normal?’... <
In all seriousness, she does have a point. All those great movies from the 1940s and 50s, none of them required their female leads to strip down. It really is exploitive. It would be like a store owner requiring his check-out clerks to work topless. It just isnt necessary.
On the other hand, its a free country. You dont like the script, you dont take the role. So while I kinda agree with Van Houten, I wont be protesting anywhere about it.
Yes dear you were manipulated/paid to be a Great Actress and do Art as though these guys are at all interested in THAT.
THEY ARENT. its just a more sophisticated way than feeling you up in a crowded bus.
Sure you are an adult but adults fall for lots of cons.
Youre famous now and made a lot of money. You were also sexually exploited.
Did she send back her paychecks?
More blah blah blah from the media and Hollywood
Yeah, okie dokie.
#metoo movement is dead - it committed suicide when it failed to actually represent all women coming forward with sexual allegations, etc. Sending Van HoutenIdiot the memo..../s
But you know she thinks Tara Reade is a slut or a nut or both and her vote for Biden is assured. Deep impact of #MeToo, there!
IIRC, the sex and nudity in Black Book seemed “natural” to the plot (which involved seducing Nazis as part of resistance activities), and showed how much the characters sacrificed themselves. It did not seem at all gratuitous.
In most films, some artful photography could get the idea across without graphic nudity and sex. Sex-obsessed pigs like Harvey Weinstein created an industry situation where graphic nudity and sex were ‘expected” of young actresses, who had to act like whores to have a career. The actresses sold themselves, but had little choice. The film moguls also were pleased to increase their audience by pretending porn was somehow sophisticated and “honest”. Carice Van Houten is correct, even if a bit late.
All, and I mean ALL of the nudity in GOT was gratuitous.
And none added to the story one whit.
I don’t question her nude scenes. They were hot. She looked better than the platinum dragon queen girl.
Wait a minute!
I see a big conflict here.
I thought liberated women were supposed to feel, look and act like sluts anytime they wanted, and now this metoo group is saying they should turn puritan again?
I’m confused.
If you didn’t like it, you shouldn’t have accepted the part....or the money they paid you for it. It was Game of Thrones. Incredible violence, a total lack of respect for human life and holding a magnifying glass up to human failings was a key part of the story. So no, it wasn’t just nudity for nudity’s sake alone. You’d think someone who was in that series would have grasped that.
