Thanks for the link to the Peter Robinson / Uncommon Knowledge interview. I’ve always enjoyed his Uncommon Knowledge interviews and podcasts.

On the downside, the test is new and we don’t know how many false positives it gives. If it is 30 % ...

On the encouraging side is the info that half of the sample had experienced symptoms which could be due to a mild COVID infection.

What is the false-positive rate of the test?

Yes, I can . Chelsea has a huge Parking lot right off Rte 1 A, an exit ramp from the Tobin Bridge, they only care about themselves, The MGH people have dedicated busses that take them to work every day. it’s an egocentric study.

That level of discordance suggests there is something wrong with the testing. If it were actually that high it would have long since stopped spreading - and things like NYC would not be happening.

Did the hospital state the false positive rate for the test?

Chelsea is linked via subway to Logan Airport and the rest of Boston. We know that the virus survives longest on smooth plastic and metallic surfaces like those found at airports & mass transit systems. NY, Boston, Philadelphia have all been hit pretty hard while west coast cities haven’t despite serviced by more direct air links with China itself.

The virus has been percolating in the eastern seaboard longer than anybody cared to admit. CDC should be looking for a trade show or some other event late last year as the kickoff event. That event could also have been in Europe with a significant number of attendees.

It wasn't in the FOX article.

They would also have to look at how they missed all of the symptoms in X-Rays and CT-scans. That there don’t appear to have been any makes it a hard case to make that it was around.

That's a confusing article. I thought that having the antibodies means you have already encountered the disease and beaten it off.....

My nephew already had the virus and has now tested negative so he would naturally have the antibodies...

What am I missing?

Your nephew probably had a swab test, which detects virus particles on mucus membranes. Those were the first developed.

That’s the initial test they do to see if someone has the disease, and its also a test to see if there’s no active infection. They swab off cells from the mucus membranes of the throat and or upper nasal tract, and test for whole virus particles.

Antibodies are different. They are produced by your immune system. You can’t find them in a swab test, only in a blood test.

That’s the initial test they do to see if someone has the disease,

He's a surgeon and he wasn't tested. He became ill then stayed home until he was finally all better then went back to work where he then tested negative for the virus.....

As a follow up, his live in fiancee is an anesthesiologist with another hospital and she was never tested for the virus and showed absolutely no symptoms even tho there is absolutely no reason not to think she may have contracted it.

He likely got the swab test for the virus, not the blood test for antibodies. When you recover, the virus is pretty much gone, and the antibodies your body has learned to make circulate to identify and coordinate the attack on any new virus particles that make it to the bloodstream.

He can tell you which tests he had and he can certainly explain the differences better than I can!

Glad he’s all better.

The only way to know with her would likely be an antibody test.

He got the swab after the virus, there is no need for an antibody test.

My original comment addressed the article which said they were testing for antibodies and 30 percent tested positive and that raised concern by the mayor who is an apparent idiot.

Antibodies are good, positive virus swabs are bad........

Oh. Sorry... you knew. You were asking the question to make the point, I guess.

The mayor IS an idiot. 30% of people walking around, feeling fine, having beat the virus (yes, there’s a possibility that some might have been coming down with it, but antibodies build as the body beats the virus, and are low when the virus is ramping up). And, the mayor is concerned about contagion in his city. That horse left the barn a couple of months ago, and no one knew.
