Urban rodentologist Bobby Corrigan has described how the COVID-19 pandemic is sending America's rats into survival mode as stay-at-home orders prompt thousands of restaurants and other businesses to close, cutting off vital vermin food sources. Ravenous rats are now turning on each other in the fight to stay fed - engaging in cannibalism, infanticide and death matches during gruesome turf wars.

I live in the country and have notice a very large increase in the number of predators going after my chickens. I lost 2 baby chicks in one day last month
I wonder if this is a good time to put out rat poison and exterminate a good portion of them?
Scavengers do play a role in ecology, though...
It is probably a sure way to get the rats infested with the virus. They will then spread it, just like they did in the Dark Ages.
This cannibal behavior also eliminates smaller weaker rats, so the gene pool going forward will be more robust for a while.
I have been to New York many times and it’s absolutely disgusting how they put massive piles of trash bags right on the sidewalks for people walk by. While the trash sits on the sidewalk rats just crawl up, a bite a hole in the cheap plastic, and have a feast.
And then the same fools from New York tell me how much smarter they are than people out in the countryside.
