Sweden sees just 77 new deaths from coronavirus and number of new infections drops by a quarter to just 544 as nation continues to resist lockdown

Sweden's daily death toll and its number of new coronavirus cases both fell today as the country continues to hold out against imposing a lockdown.

The 77 new deaths - down from 106 yesterday - bring the total from 793 to 870, according to figures from Sweden's public health agency.

The number of confirmed infections went up by 544, a drop of nearly a quarter from yesterday's near-record figure of 722.

It takes the total number of cases from 9,141 to 9,685.

These figures will likely be used to pressure governments which have resorted to lockdowns to battle Covid-19 to lift the draconian restrictions.

More than 4,000 of the country's 9,685 confirmed cases are in the Stockholm area, according to official figures.

The government has also carried out random sampling which suggests that as many as 2.5 per cent of people in Stockholm have been infected.

That implies a higher figure of around 60,000 in the Stockholm region, suggesting that many people have had the virus without being added to the official count.

Unlike most of Europe, Sweden has not imposed a lockdown, and primary schools, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars remain open.

Our administration says that Sweden is suffering gravely. Compared to who?

Not every article is Sweden bashing. If their infections continue to drop it can make a lot of the “experts” look pretty dumb.

Funny how the libs don’t see Sweden as the model for this.

They have a little over 10 million people; we have around 340 million people. I’m guessing there might be some comparative ratios involved.

Multiply those numbers by 34, and you’d see what it would look like proportionately to America.

You know, Trump went out of his way to cover for Fauci and Scarf Lady. I think he was sending them a signal.

You can make the ratios whatever you want but the numbers that counts the most is the number of Swedes that are complaining about the government's handling of the outbreak, the number of businesses being ruined and the number of people going broke because they aren't working. What's the ratio of that to America, Spain, Britain, etc.?

The swedes are liberal freaks, they have a liberal freakish government. We are, as a people, liberal freaks with an opposition president. In that configuration, we will always have yuge numbers of complaining citizens.

"The 77 new deaths - down from 106 yesterday - bring the total from 793 to 870 . . ."

Sweden's daily deaths:

April 7th = 114 deaths this day
April 8th = 96 deaths this day
April 9th = 106 deaths this day

Sweden's total deaths:

April 7th = 591
April 8th = 687
April 9th = 793

I wouldn't count April 10th's figures until the 11th, when all the data for the previous day is final.

compared to Denmark

Sweden: 10 million people with 4 million in the Orseund region in the south.

Denmark: 5 million people - similar density to the Oresund region

Apr 10
Sweden: 870 deaths, 77 latest
Denmark: 247 deaths, 10 latest

Sorry, but it looks like Denmark’s lockdown is demonstrably more effective than Sweden’s

they have 10 million, with 4 million concentrated in the south and 6 million distributed over a lot of land.

It’s difficult to extrapolate to the USA

we can also look here where its pretty much just new york vs the rest of the country without much relation between what lockdown measures were implemented. Maybe things have been a bit overzealous.

Not having homogenized dairy products and low numbers of pre-existing conditions being put to the test, I guess.

Spanish flu is described as three waves, the second the worst.

Wonder if that model applies to a guinea pig colony?

That is why I have been looking at the infection RATE and death RATE per million. Still lower than most countries I would put any trust in the numbers.

In Sweden’s defense... There aren’t a whole lot of Italians in Sweden.

On a serious not... Sweden and Japan... Japan just rocketed to 100 deaths among a population of 125+ million in one of the most densely population land masses on earth. Japan declared a ‘state of emergency’ but they didn’t lock down... Apparently their constitution prevents them from ‘locking down’ businesses... Too bad that wasn’t case everywhere.
