Ok, I realize this is anecdotal, but I tend to believe what's real, what I can verify rather than what is fed to me. I take everything I find online with a grain of salt - and you all should too, including this obviously. But like the butler in Clue knowing he was safe holding the key, I know this to be true.

Monday my wife called her cousin to wish him a happy anniversary - and to get the straight dope on the "crisis." You see her cousin is a respiratory therapist at a hospital in a fairly large western city. (Las Vegas, Salt Lake, Denver sized) His take on it, from the "front lines?"

It's not a good year/season, but it's not terrible either.

He has a handful of people on vents, by his memory a couple more than last year, but they're not at capacity.

Yes, they've had a couple of patients die.

No, none of the staff have contracted it - they follow specific protective procedures - even during "normal" flu seasons.

He's working normal shifts, in fact he was grilling when she called - their anniversary dinner "out" on the patio.

He did say the "flattening of the curve" was appreciated but he did decline to offer an opinion on if all this was necessary. He just doesn't know, but he does know their unit in their hospital is basically running business as usual.

So sure, that's one guy in one hospital in one city. Like I said, I believe what I can verify. I have no doubt the situation is better in some places - I'm sure there are respiratory therapists in other places sitting around reading medical journals or doing their usual thing. I'm sure there are other places where yeah, they're in it up to their eyeballs. Just be careful what you believe folks - particularly out of 'rat controlled areas like NYC. There are going to be a lot of "staged" presentations coming out of these places to reinforce their message, their agenda.

I stand with the “flubros” (and -bras). We need to get this country back to work! I personally know of 2 businesses that closed (perhaps PERMANENTLY) in my area, and also two large manufacturers who are considering laying off employees. If we keep on, we will DESTROY the economy! The cure will be MUCH WORSE that the disease.

Thats ok, I enjoy reading the threads everyday. The madness from some of these folks is eye opening to say the least. I would just chuckle at those that have their hair on fire but it kinda turns my stomach to see some self described conservatives act like frightened or entitled children. Its good to know there are others out here that still have their wits. Its sure is pretty and green this year in centex. How does it look down yonder?
