One reason Islam spread so far and fast it that washing your hands 5 times a day, and using your left hand for body cleaning and your right hand for eating saved a lot of lives. Also covering the nose and mouth with veils, and in general having clothes (burkas) that were only worn outside, and taking shoes off at the door also were good disease preventers.
