I believe the President is very aware. Every time he touts the malaria cocktail, Fauci fumes. Today the President, after touting it, shrugged his shoulders and said....hey....I’m not a doctor...but I have common sense.
Something to that effect.
It’s clear that he’s well briefed on these therapies, and is working to give people the option of trying them, without creating impossible liabilities for doctors and the drug makers.
Fauci’s not wrong that the information to date is largely anecdotal, and I think that the president was speaking to Fauci and his followers when he observed today that (paraphrasing here) “we don’t have time for the traditional studies, I want people to live. What do you have to lose.”
Which is of course correct, and which is why we can’t have the doctors be the last word in setting policy.
