Take it to a jury trial and see how they apportion the blame/responsibility. Again, if there is cause.
And I am only pointing out what would be likely to happen in such a situation if the deep pockets belonged to the host rather than the pilot—if the host weren’t Kobe.
I’m surprised Kobe isn’t being sued, wasn’t it his copter?

Of course. And their investigation may not be finished by the time the lawsuit(s) begin talking settlement.
Regardless the final report would determine the percentage of liability exposure the company may have. With the previous infractions against the pilot the cloud will be over him. Questions about Bryant’s knowledge of that will certainly play into this too. Knowing that and still insisting on “his” pilot places more blame on not only the pilot but Bryant himself. Which is what I believe these suits are all about, trying to shift focus off of Bryant, the real deep pockets of all involved.

Probably not. My initial point was that with a less popular celebrity than Kobe being the deep pockets, survivors of the other families may look to see if they could attach liability to him—but that that wasn’t so likely given that it was Kobe.

But since you’re as eager to play the race card as Al Sharpton you should try aiming it at Kobe’s dad who objected to their marriage for exactly that reason.

Great point! I had forgotten about this. And it caused Kobe and his parents to have a very rocky relationship. Thanks for reminding us.
