The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

Yup. My prep was emergency food for 2 months (bought a couple of weeks ago), other food (ramen, some frozen and canned goods to last another couple of months, a life straw (We have a pool) and lots of toilet paper. Basically all we need to ride out a food shortage and/or public shutdown.

If it goes longer than 4 months then we're all screwed anyways.

Dang. News I didn’t want. My diabetic daughter has an appointment at CHEO (Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario) in Ottawa on Tuesday—two hours from here. If you have to be within a couple hours of a big city, I think you could do a heck of a lot worse than Ottawa. We are west, which is probably the direction to be, although if you really know how to survive in Canada, North would be even better.

A big-city hospital is pretty well the last place I’d want to go right about now if I had a choice.

Better now than a week later. I bet you are right on the 4-7 days.

And my guess is that what you are talking about is massive panic.

My Berkey is in (good for 6000 gallons). I’ve laid in a decent supply of black elderberry. (anyone else trying that?).

We are strating to get the trickle in Covid-198 crowd.

Last friday is was an Iranian flying into Montreal who tested positive. Iran likely has a huge Covid19 epidemic but are not reporting it.Likewise we have people arriving from China continuously who show no signs but who are carriers of the Covid-19 virus.

Canada may have to ban flight arrivals from China and Iran.

Agree. Actually, I thought we’d be seeing it starting last week. There are some good anecdotes at Zero Hedge. In one case a guy who services a tire center said that the tire center is well-stocked, upstairs, but in the basement, where they keep their reserve stock - just about empty (tires need steel from China). Others can’t get car stereos. About all that I’ve seen are emptying shelves for children’s clothing at Walmart. It looks like that will go first.

I’ll start watching selves more closely next week. It’s going to be fun documenting the shortages, and then the inevitable panic buying!
