If you want a happy marriage, you must combine finances and act as a joined pair toward goals. Engaging in protective behaviors like having separate accounts increases the odds of money fights and divorce. Want a blow up? Get into the first argument over how to split baby expenses.

Always thought it odd that feminists wanted to have the surname of not one but two men.

“Seven in 10 women think there is a societal pressure for women to become subordinate by taking their husband’s last name after getting married. “

So, if 7 can’t deal with the level of commitment needed for marriage, that leaves 3 in 10 women being of marriageable material.

I am not familiar with various cultured but traditionally the woman took the husband’s last name after marriage. Names are joined (hyphenated) in some places and that seems to be growing here.

I didn’t change my name when I married, but not as an ‘ideological’ choice; there very practical reasons for it at the time.

I don’t understand why that or a joint bank account makes a woman ‘subordinate’. It seems to me that it simply makes of two people a functioning union.

(My husband just said, ‘You don’t like one of us, anyway’.)

:-)

“What happens when two people with two hyphenated last names get married? Do they both get FOUR NAMES? Then, do their kids get eight names when they get married to another four-name person?”

It’s like that old Faberge Shampoo commercial (with a young Heather Locklear).

30.5 years for us. My wife doesn’t seem to mind.

She does say I don’t listen sometimes... I think! Lol

I was thrilled to ditch my last name. And I want the same last name as my kids.

They dont like that, but they will still take half when they leave.

Either be married, or die with your cats.

I guess I’m lucky.

When I got married 45 years ago, my new wife was happy to take my name and for us to begin a life together.

I feel sorry for kids today, so much SJW, so little enjoyment of life together....

My wife’s maiden name is Dingee. She promised that if she ever leaves me she will not only keep all of my assets, but my name as well. LOL. Year 43 coming in June BTW.

Separate checking accounts has been one of the four pillars supporting my 45 year marriage. Of course I monitor all finances using Quicken so I know where all the money goes.

Yep.

Won’t share his name? Don’t share his assets.

Well, ya know, men feel like having to give up their girlfriends is subordination.

We all gotta make sacrifices.
