How a vegan diet could affect your intelligence
BBC ^ | 27 Jan 2020 | Zaria Gorvett

The vegan diet is low in – or, in some cases, entirely devoid of – several important brain nutrients. Could these shortcomings be affecting vegans' abilities to think?

Others are found in vegan foods, but only in meagre amounts; to get the minimum amount of vitamin B6 required each day (1.3 mg) from one of the richest plant sources, potatoes, you’d have to eat about five cups’ worth (equivalent to roughly 750g or 1.6lb). Delicious, but not particularly practical.

An occasional evening at the local 'all you can eat buffet' might fix it?

How can you even pretend to compete against the scintillating intellect of vegans like Gwyneth Paltrow?

Go back to the diets of the 50's. Those old folks lived to 80, & 90. (My parents and grandparents)

Cereal and milk for breakfast...or a couple eggs.

Soup and sandwich and milk for lunch

>Meat, vegies, milk for dinner.

Fruit was a snack.

No soda or chips in our house....just popcorn.

I'm 76. BP 118/65 115 lbs 5'3" female.

Fortunately no meds....my family is blessed with good genes.

There is a University of Hawaii study that said a lifetime (or there abouts) consumption of tofu shrinks your brain.

Also vegan’s broken bones take longer to heal.

If a vegan is chewing his tofu, and bites his cheek, is he still a vegan?

Oh brother. Here we go with this ignorant BS. The answer is yes, the vegan diet affects the ability to think that breast-feeding off of another species is normal human behavior. It also affects the ability to think that eating animal protein is not going to cause heart disease, cancer and a host of other chronic diseases. Yep, the vegan diet affects the ability to think a lot of things.

Physical Anthropologist said long posited that the turning point in human intelligence came from the extra energy available in fish and meat to power an enlarged brain.

This directly enabled Advanced language, cooperation an invention. Gorillas are largely vegetarian. Like Bulls they are strong and are happy but chimpanzee omnivores would rule them if they competed for the same territory.

Many years ago I read that women often cut out three foods while dieting and they are the foods she needs for brain function and memory. They were beans, meat, and I forgot the other one! See, it was TRUE!

Nearly all grocery supplied bread has cheap soybean in it.

And consequently all fast food breads. SAVE THE BRAINS! EAT MORE COW AND HOG!

Vegetarianism is very doable. East Indians are not shy about milk based products (and they are delicious). It gets a LOT harder when you eliminate all animal products. The article is quite thorough and well written, though long.

Honestly, how can anyone really know?

Well, at lunchtime
You can always find me
At the Whole Earth Vitamin Bar
Just sucking on my plain white yogurt
From my hand thrown pottery jar

And sippin’ a little hand pressed cider
With a carrot stick for dessert
And wiping my face in a natural way
On the sleeve of my peasant shirt
Oh, yeah

Ah, but when that clock strikes midnight
And I’m all by myself
I work that combination
On my secret hideaway shelf

And I pull out some Fritos corn chips
Dr. Pepper and an Ole Moon Pie
Then I sit back in glorious expectation
Of a genuine junk food high

Oh yeah, in the daytime I’m Mr. Natural
Just as healthy as I can be
But at night I’m a junk food junkie
Good Lord have pity on me

I’m afraid someday they’ll find me
Just stretched out on my bed
With a handful of Pringles Potato Chips
And a Ding Dong by my head

In the daytime I’m Mr. Natural
Just as healthy as I can be
But at night I’m a junk food junkie
Good Lord have pity on me
