They always have medical staff on board. You see the world in comparative luxury. Medicines are cheaper outside of the USA. I see some positives.

I have run the numbers and when you get to the point of having perks from being a frequent cruiser it does make sense if you are in somewhat good health. Maybe a bit mobility impaired (walker, wheelchair), can’t really clean house, cook meals, etc. You can come in under $60 a day, that includes food, twice daily maid, and a few other things. Different scenery most days, not just the same concrete courtyard at the retirement home. Movies, bingo, other games if that’s your thing.

The numbers don’t seem at all right. Independent living centers don’t cost anywhere near $70,000 per year. My father and mother-in-laws spent about a third of that for the two of them (about the same as the Holiday Inn that was mentioned). This gave them sit down meals, and some transportation, and the all important BINGO.

By law, the jail could only keep him 30 days at a time, so he had enough money to buy a bus ticket to a hot springs resort where he could break it up for a day or two before retuning "home."
The higher ups at the district Po-Po caught on to the scheme and told the locals he would have to make other arrangements before the winter set in. So the old guy made friends with a local cabbie, bought them both rooms at the resort, then arranged a cab ride back which he couldn't pay for. So the cabbie delivered him to the local lock-up where he could now legally stay until spring because he was serving time for a crime.
That is all true.
It would not be smart to toss him out, but he has no long term lease.

Wow, thanks for posting. Very few articles get the wheels in my head rolling, but this one did. You get to travel the country (Actually, the world... I have stayed at Holiday inn in Dresden) and make the best of your final years.
The free-market will ALWAYS offer solutions to government-created cost and regulatory barriers.
Wait for legislators to create legislation forcing hotels to prove they are not offering long-term housing for “senior living.”

What is not to like about that?
I have a hard time believing that the Holiday Inn is less then 60 dollars a day. I mean I have been in many all over the United States and if you get in with 125 a night, you are doing good.

It would be more practical to stay in your home. (I still have a mortgage, but in 20 years I won’t). Once the mortgage is paid, my insurance is 1301 a year and the taxes are 2100 a year (in Florida for 2,000 square foot single family). Even if they taxes triple, it would still be cheaper. When he needs assistance, he could sell his him and have enough to stay at the facility till death.
