The Home 2 Suites hotel in Biloxi, Mississippi is not just providing people with a place to stay, they’re also passionate about putting misfortunate pups into loving homes.

Since last fall, the hotel has housed a number of adoptable shelter dogs in their lobby. The dogs come from the Humane Society of South Mississippi and while at the hotel, they’re housed in a large kennel in the lobby.

The dogs are part of the hotel’s “Fostering Hope” program that lets guest foster and adopt dogs.

Guests are able to apply to adopt a dog at any time during their stay and they can bring their new pup up to their hotel room as soon as their application has been approved.

Dog adoption is awesome and if you do it, great! But our local shelters are flooded with pit bulls and other Amstaff knockoffs. No thanks. I would consider an older dog of the GSD or Lab variety, but recently lost one lab to age and another is feeling her years pretty hard now. I think the next will be a puppy so I have a little more time between the heartaches.

I get that. I like the idea of the hotel putting up dogs for adoption, but the real issue is people need to spay or neuter their pets. There really are too many little animals out there that need homes.

I wish they’d make spaying and neutering free, it’s gotten so doggone (pardon the pun) expensive.

Ummm.. Why can’t orphanages do this?
Because orphans are the cash cow.

Most excellent program.

All my dogs have been rescue dogs from the pound or someone that was going to take a dog to the pound. Without exception they have been good dogs.

My last rescue dog named Leo was from the pound. My older dog had passed away and we needed a new dog to keep our younger dog company.

My wife went to the pound and this half golden retriever and I think German Shepard just looked at her with sad eyes and was really saying, “why am I here? Take me home please.”

She did. Leo was at home for two days and then escaped from my poorly made fence. I looked for him for hours and just said the hell with it. About sundown I opened the front door and there was Leo. It was like he was saying, “I know where things are good.”

Cost of dog from pound for the shots. $25
Cost of large new fence about 5 grand. It was a good deal all around.

The moment Leo knew this was his home, he was perfect. He is actually very gentle and loving nor aggressive. However, if someone tried to harm my wife or me he would be 95 lbs of jaws and pain.

Dogs are smart.

I know if I was staying at one of those long term places, that’d be some of interest to me. I adopted my 18yo puppers right after starting a new job.

Mine too. :)

I thought this was a clever idea for adoption. And usually adopted animals from shelter are already spaces or neutered.

Yeah, my Thena is 18 now. I should send her to college. She was a shelter rescue. Spoiled! Spoiled rotten! :)

Hey, if your Lab is feeling her age due to arthritis, my sister’s kennel rescue is going through the same thing, and her vet just put her on gabapentin, 100 mg. just prior to bed. I’m on it 400 mg. x4 daily for my various incurables, and it does work well. I think staying at a hotel and adopting one is a great idea here.
