Is this why no casualties from Iran missile attack?

I just saw this video on YouTube and it has me wondering. Did the missle attack from Iran fail not because their missiles were badly aimed but because the America defenses were so effective?

I'm only assuming this video is from the Iran attack. For all I know it could just be a test run of the system here in America somewhere.

My best guess: There were no casualties from Iran’s missile attack because Iran did not want any casualties. So they deliberately missed.

This strategy is actually quite clever. By launching missiles at American targets, the mullahs can now claim that they retaliated for the killing of that general. But by causing no casualties, Iran avoids a crushing punitive strike by Trump.

Normally I don't click on videos because they are data hogs. Why show some talking head when text will do? In this case it's a film of the antimissile guns at work. They shoot out a stream of lead and take out the missiles before you can even see them. If you look close you'll notice one or two flashes before some of the missiles blow up . Perhaps the flashes are glancing blows of a bullet that fails to take the missile down. Plenty more bullets to take their place , it's almost mesmerizing to watch this battle of machine against machine in play.

Iran did not want any casualties...

I thought that way myself until I saw this video. Who knows what they would have hit, they got shot down before we could find out! Their missiles did take out Saudi targets though so it's not like the Iranian missiles are useless. If the Iranians were trying to hurt us , their total failure has to have them second guessing if they really want to try something else.

Judging from the smoke trails, looks to be a video game.

Just a talking head video. I watched it half way through because it provided little extra information and I pay for my bandwidth! Thanks for posting it anyways.

Remember the video game Missile Defense? The concept was that if your enemy launches enough missiles at you, you will run out of missiles to shoot them out of the sky.

As a guy who likes to photoshop this footage looked pretty real to me.

On second thought those smoke trails fade out rather quickly. In real life they hang out for awhile but in a game it would just slow the game down if it had to keep computing the smoke trail realistically. If nothing else it’s a pretty good fake.

The video shown is not actual footage, but simulation or video game. The system shown is C-RAM. Counter Rocket Artillery Mortar. It’s a Navy CIWS system on a trailer. It’s great for incoming short range stuff, but it’s not a Ballistic Missile defense system, and can only defend a small area. I sent a lot of my CIWS guys to the sandbox to operate and maintain these systems.

Contrary to the internet meme, the missiles were right on target. The base received adequate warning both from our own systems and the Iranians. The missiles hit their objectives and in some instances right in the middle. That no one died is a function of the warning as well a preparedness.

The rest is fake news or bad reporting.

I found it.

Counter Rocket Artillery Mortar simulator

The C-RAM is a real weapon and there are some very cool videos of it in action. This video however isn’t one of them. The simulation is from the video game Arma 3.

This report on the effects of bombing in Vietnam suggests that even a very basic entrenchment topped up with sandbags can protect the people sheltering within from anything but a close hit:

https://eml.berkeley.edu/~groland/pubs/vietnam-bombs_19oct05.pdf
[Conventional iron bombs, free-falling and unguided. “These account for the greatest fraction of the total weight of aerial munitions used; they are carried by fighter-bombers, attack bombers, and high-flying strategic bombers (B-52s), and delivered by free fall. ... Weight ranges from 100 pounds to 3000 pounds; most common range is 500-1000 pounds; about 50 percent of weight is explosive. The bomb works mostly by blast effect, although shrapnel from the casing is also important. ... The crater from a 500-lb. bomb with impact fuze (e.g., MK 82) is typically 30 feet in diameter and 15 feet deep (this obviously varies greatly with the terrain). Shrapnel is important over a zone about 200 feet in diameter. Simple shelters (sandbags, earthworks, even bamboo) protect against all but close hits.” (Littauer et al 1972: 222). “The biggest of [the GP bombs] was the 15,000-pound BLU-82B ‘Daisy Cutter’.” (Doleman 1984: 127)]

While I was in the Navy they called it the Phoenix system. I do know the Navy is working on Hypersonic rail bullets that can actually be steered in flight. That would be the only way I figure you could make this video a reality.

Excellent work tracking that down! I knew I could count on another Freeper to get to the truth of this!
