A Florida man who shot and killed his son-in-law who jumped out of a bush to surprise him for his birthday will not face criminal charges, authorities said.
Christopher Bergan, 37, had arrived in Florida from Norway on Tuesday night to surprise his wife's father, Richard Dennis, 61, Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said at a news conference Thursday.

Same here. Never understood this kind of thing. You see it all the time on America’s Funniest Videos and I always say the same thing. Lucky that guy wasn’t packing.

I cannot imagine a grown man thinking of growling and jumping out of the brush at someone. The son-in-law was not too bright, and being a SIL he must have known his father in law had fire arms.
Having said that the shooter always needs to identify the target.
