Lost to the outside world for a generationand feared extincta small deer-like species with tiny fangs has been photographed tiptoeing through a dry lowland forest in southern Vietnam... The silver-backed chevrotain, also known as the Vietnamese mouse-deer, is about the size of a large rabbit, with a silver sheen on its rump. The creatures have tusk-like incisors, visible in the new photographs of the animals. Because chevrotains lack horns or antlers, and the fangs are especially long in males, scientists think the males use them to compete for territory and mates.

Meet Narwhal - The Puppy With A Tail On His Face
I wonder what ever happened to our poster *Sabertooth*?
I think their lives are more like deer than rodents. Those long legs seem unsuitable for burrowing. In fact, they are the smallest hoofed mammals in the world. They are ruminants, and have four-chambered stomachs to ferment tough plant foods like deer or cattle. In other ways, however, they have primitive features, closer to nonruminants such as pigs. They run more like pigs, have teeth more like pigs, and mate more like pigs (no pun intended).
But they are their own kind of animal, and different variations of chevrotains live across Asia and Africa. The water chervotain in Africa stays under water for a long time to avoid predators. Some scientists theorize that whales initially evolved from a similar sort of small deer.

Global warming brought about the ideal conditions for the mouses triumphant return
Now, I can unequivocally state that this is not my fault.
