They do that here in L.A. too..

One of my bus had a 30 table restaurant. He moved to a 10 table restaurant space and joined Uber/Doordash etc. Cheaper to pay waiters part time.

Except for the very occasional pizza, I’ve never tried a food delivery service, like GrubHub etc.

The couple next door, afflicted by CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) order from Giant, and refrigerated trucks roll-up, and 2-3 guys unload 10-20 large boxes of food each month. Their garage is full of freezers.

Here in Silicon Valley there is at least one commercial kitchen that hosts 4 fast food producers that is not open to the public, not even for pickup, delivery driver pickup only. Like if you had a kitchen that made recipes from A&W, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC. Saves tons of money on labor, decor, duplication of equipment and even insurance.

For me it makes ZERO sense to eat at any fast food restaurant. If I order two meals (me & wife) it’ll cost around $17-18. Given, comes with a drink - but so what? I can phone in an order at a real restaurant, get REAL food, and split a meal with the wife for under $15.

We do this quite often. The only time fast foot is a consideration is if I’m already out and about, get really hungry, and am willing to go through the first drive through I see - so I can keep moving.

Texas Roadhouse has a $23 16oz prime rib dinner that comes with 4 rolls, baked potato, veggies, etc. - it’s still more than we need after splitting it all. I still leave a small tip on pick up if they’re busy but you’re not going to give the same as eating there either.

People are having less time for dinner, sometimes eating out takes too long. That may not be all good but is just reality.

It never tastes as good at home.

Tastes much better at the restaurant.

“Suuuurrrre. Go ahead”, he said. -— “Raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour”, he said. “People need a living wage!”, he said.

My first thought too - not having a place to sit and eat a meal seems outre` even if most orders are to-go.

I do a lot of my own cooking (I'm a male and I cook for my wife as well) at home and I do the whole bit, cast iron pans, woks, crock pots, etc.

It does take a lot of discipline however, as there is a lot of time consumed in prep and cleanup - not to mention the cooking itself. But even though I get top-notch ingredients (I don't skimp there) and pay a premium price, it is still much cheaper than going to restaurants all the time.

For example, I'll pay $5 a pound for the best fresh poultry and well over $10 a pound for steaks and seafood. And still, I'll save money over going to the restaurants.

Cooking at home is well worth doing if you are willing to put in the time and work. Later today, I have seared lamb loin chops with garlic with sweet potato and roasted brussel sprouts with a nice red wine. It will be good.

You must hit an Aldis if you have one close by. Men can be better cooks because we know the physics of cooking. Hate to brag but I can cook lamb standing on my head and Brussels sprouts..... You can get them on the stalk where you are. I once got a stalk or two out of a frozen field in Lexington Massachusetts on an ultra shi/tty day. Bon appetite!

Because slow cooking lamb shanks preferably, while standing on your head is what is going on. Is happening. Is what is a new adventure. Don’t go to MacDonald’s. Cook a few lamb shanks with carrots and onion. Truth!
