This study slipped through the cracks in our now-politicized diet/nutritional world. Not that their finding was "totally unexpected", and lucky for that, for if they were actually expecting (and looking for) this finding as a benefit of Keto, they likely wouldn't have been funded.

Also note that this is off-the-beaten-path publication, which is probably why it slipped past the climate-change censors, who really, really, do not want anything published encouraging people to eat meat.

Not surprising, when i styaed strictly paleo for several years barely caught a cold when people around me looked to be at death’s door

Almost limitless energy...i remember on day i was hunting in the mountains, made a wrong turn heading back to my truck and wound up hiking 14 miles in pretty rough terrain at high elevation with gear, rifle etc in less than 5 hours and had i not figured out where i was was getting ready for another 15 miles to a place i knew i could get to and wasnt worried in the least about making it

“A high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet ...”

I keep hearing that eating like that is going to result in high cholesterol and triglycerides. I keep getting blood work that comes back with results that are more common for somebody less than half my age. The “fat makes you fat” crowd says that it will eventually catch up with me. I guess we will see.

The American diet is based on traditional practice. Our calorie intake is based on expected output of physical activity.

If you eat Like a lumberjack and work like a lumberjack... You will be fit. If you eat like lumberjac and sit on your ass all day... You will be unfit.

It is that simple..

I’ve been binge-listening to this podcast ... it is EXCELLENT!!!

Low Carb MD Podcast
https://podcastrepublic.net/podcast/1441557261

Note: when I checked the link to make sure I was posting it correctly, I am getting a 502 “Bad Gateway” message & it’s the same on my phone. I also checked it on “Is It Down” & it is indeed down. The link has been working fine previously - I’m going to go ahead & post it anyway & hope they get their server issue fixed quickly.

Description
Low Carb MD is a patient-centered podcast focusing on weight loss, wellness and preventative medicine. The co-hosts, Dr. Brian Lenzkes, Dr. Tro Kalayjian, Dr. Jason Fung, and Megan Ramos will interview a new guest on each episode and walk the listeners through how they approach weight loss, wellness and disease reversal with their patients.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My comments:

Both Dr. Brian & Dr. Tro have been on the weight loss journey themselves. Dr. Tro has lost 155 lbs & kept it off for several years. The saying “what has been seen cannot be unseen” applies here ... after seeing patients come off of insulin and other meds, like BP, they cannot go back to using “Standard of Care” approved methods for treating diabetics .... it makes them worse. For the first time in 14 years of practice, Dr. Brian has patients coming off of insulin/meds. It’s an exciting time in medicine as the door is being opened to a way to return people to good metabolic health. SO many good episodes ... Episode 25, Dr. Christian Assad was really good - cardiologist. For sure listen to #1 & hear why the two docs are doing this.

I’ve been wheat-free for 3 years. And I never get sick, but I rarely did anyway because I take one gram of C daily and have for decades....Wheat Belly diet is excellent. When I began, my LDL went down 40 points in 6 weeks and weight dropped 20 lbs.

The thing that works best for me is exercise. Go to gym 5x week, do a mile on the treadmill in 14 minutes, plus upper body stuff. When I sprained my foot and had to stay off it for an entire month, I got very tired, had trouble sleeping...feel like an old person for first time in my entire long life. Doc said that’s normal..body gets accustomed to exercise and has hissy fits when you stop. He also told me I’m very strong and will live to be 100.

I avoid prescription drugs...take low-dose hydrochlorothiazide for bp. It now is average for a healthy 15-year-old.

Diet gurus will NEVER take my potatoes away from me. Irish heritage, doncha know.

Veto!

5 years+ ago I went from my keto diet to my wife’s Mediterranean diet, which a modified Keto with lots of veggies, sea food, chicken and still minimal if any re carb intake.

We have at least one steak or smallpork loin roast per week to go with the above. We add couple of eggs per week to 3-4.

My weight and her’s has stabilized.

We noticed that if we have something like flu, we labeled it Flu Lite. It might last 2 days at the most.

Since we take the flu shots yearly, we felt that maybe we were getting protection from the Flu shots.

Maybe it is from the Med/Keto and the flu shots.

This is not exactly the same as the old saying, feed a cold, starve a fever. But I think it rhymes.

I quit getting sick when I began taking Vitamin D daily. Heck, I’d love to get the flu to drop some poundage - but no luck!

I’ve always believed that virus’ Use sugar for energy. A low carb diet starves them of sugar and makes it easier for our bodies to defeat them. I am not a doctor or medical researcher but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express one time.

When I go seriously low carb, I rarely if ever get sick for more than a day or two.

Combining Keto with Intermittent Fasting is really the ticket. Fasting helps the gut flora, which also provides a big boost to the body’s immune system.

Not surprising, carbs and sugars can be fuel for bacteria. Plus processed sugars and carbs rob the body of minerals that cannotherwise help the body.
