I had to put my 19 yr old rescue blue/lilac point siamese female down this past February. I had her for 17 years and she pre-dated my hubby! She was healthy as a horse and then one day she started crying and wouldn’t eat or drink.
Something wrong with her stomach. Made the difficult decision to put her down as she was suffering so.
RIP Kitty.
My most precious old girl is on my lap, her favorite spot on earth, as I type this. She only has 3 legs, right rear was amputated 11 years ago, and knows she will get her right cheek, chin and ear scratched for hours on end.
Tough thing to do,looks like your cat had a good life.
They do seem different from other cats. More loving and mellow, imo.
I lost one at a young age(< 2) due to Feline Infectious Peritonitis.
So sorry. I have been there a few times myself. It hurts bad.
So sorry, I lost my lil girl (dog) about a month ago... still hurts.
We need to remember, they are only visiting.
I wasn't doing so bad reading this thread till I saw your picture of him at the shelter.Now everything is blurry.

Lilly said he looks a lot like her....but she is an ‘only cat’ and likes it that way.
We had your cats twin brother until seven years ago when age caught up, and he went as we all do. Right down to the eyes he was identical, everything. He was pure love, and full of stuff. He stood out above, and beyond so many of the other cats we’ve had over the years.
Down to eleven now with four newbies from feral mom outside by one of the barns just spayed, and/or neutered, shots, and all trying to find them good homes. Gonna git that mother cat one of these days, and fix her too.

Funny. I heard this song recently which brought back some memories, and I never realized it was about an Irish Setter named "Shannon" (owned by Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys, I think) which had been hit by a car. The guy wrote this song to comfort him...kind of gave it different meaning when I heard the story.
Sat there weeping like a kid while they injected her, completely knocked me into another universe.
A friend sent me a giclee of a picture of her when she heard -> I couldn't look at it for 3 weeks. Felt like a train had driven through my stomach and the passengers has ripped out an organ as they passed through my gut. Then the train was gone, just a ripped open fleshy mess in my stomach.
In time I decided to keep my eyes open for a new little Viking after debating whether I should wait and chose to embrace the inevitable - whether it took a week or 6 months ... she is here now the new little one. Not a replacement, but will be a different perfect little unit of life to orbit with. Love her, love and miss the one that died, but her picture is above the fridge now (I can look at it) looking down and me and the new crazy little African Serval descendant who is as spastic and confident as my former one was calm and confident.
Maybe I know a little how you feel -> it's the worst thing I've felt in decades. Sorry to hear. And/But ... life is a circle ... they just don't tell you that a part of that circle as you're going through it will explode your mind and heart.
It SUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I am very glad the not-replacement-but-still-awesome one is here to greet me when I get home. They say something cheesy like grief is love with no place to land. At LEAST there is a place for it to land now, but still feel a little train in my gut when I think of the one that left :-( :-)
Handsome boy! I’m really sorry. You will always miss him, but that’s good, as it means he was special in your life. You were both lucky to have each other.
Condolences to you from this cat lover-what a pretty boy he was-orange tabbies are my favorite cats-one of my 4 cats-Titus-is an orange boy.
My Maine Coon died in his sleep over 2 years ago-he was 18 and I still miss him...
Please go to a shelter/animal welfare group and give a feral or abandoned pet kitty a loving home-shelter cats are the best pets...
Tough to do for sure ... even knowing you did the right thing for him as you have done throughout the fine life and home you gave him. Sincere condolences.
Other than one rescue cat, the same here. The rescue cat was damaged, as many of them are. It was rough to witness the result of such treatment.
We've had cats for 36 years. We're retired in our 60s and have three cats now who will be 13, 12, and 8 early next year. My wife's not sure about adopting any more after them. The main reason being having the cat survive us and needing to be placed in another home.
OTOH, I love having cats around (except at 4-5am when then think it's time to eat!), and you read about the benefits to seniors having pets when they are able to properly care for the animals.
I know how you must feel, I’ve had to put down 2 beloved cats who were suffering with terminal cancers. It was one of the most depressing days of my life, not sure I could do it again.
If there is no Rainbow Bridge, I’m not going. It wouldn’t be heaven without them. I’ve lost count of the number of cats, dogs, horses, and even a rat, that have been my friends over the past 64 years and change. Some of them I only know of because of stories my mom and dad told me about pets from when I was very small, and I know I don’t remember all the stories. Some of them I’ve lost because of the heavy pain meds from several surgeries I had some years ago. We had to have our Flurry kitty put down some months ago, snow white, with blue eyes. She was my oldest daughter’s birthday present for her 13th birthday. Flurry was either badly treated by humans, or a feral kitty, and spent most of her first three or four years hiding from us all, except my autistic son. She let him hold her, pet her, and she would sit in his lap now and again. In recent years, as she got used to being around us, I would pet her now and again, when it seemed like she’d not mind. One day, I noticed that when I came home from work, she’d be waiting by the door, and she would let me pet her, even acted as if she wanted to be petted. Until she passed, she and the dog were the only ones who always were glad to see me. We have three other kitties, and the dog, still, and I love them all, but there isn’t anyone like Flurry anymore. I think I can understand your pain. Life goes on, though, and there are other kitties and puppies, and older and other animals who need someone to love, and to love them. Take some time to lick your wounds, and then find someone else who needs you. You’ll find you need them, too.
