When I was younger, I never appreciated how good the actors and actresses of the era were. I had heard of Garbo, of course, but really didn’t know why she was such a big deal. After watching her in this, I finally got it.

I recall seeing that movie on the late-late show some decades ago. I was very surprised that was Greta Garbo giving such a good hearty laugh. In her later movies, she was usually rather sullen and understated. It looked at though she was actually eating the food and not pretending to eat as they do on burger commercials.

I’m staggered by your list. So many really good movies—many actually for adult audiences. 2019 films pretty much pale in comparison.

All Russian agents should look like Garbo!

What a list of movies! I’m going back in time...to 1939.

Within a wonderful and funny movie, it also shows how their own sense of inevitable victory is the religion of Communism.

Of all those movies, the one I want to see again most is Angels Wash Their Faces. I’m a big fan of the Dead End Kids, and Angels with Dirty Faces (with the Kids, James Cagney, Pat O’Brien and Humphrey Bogart) is one of my favorite movies of all time.

There was another movie from that era that made fun of the Soviet Commies. No Greta Garbo, but another top notch exotic actress (Hedy Lamarr?). All I remember is they somehow wound in a tank and accidentally went over the border into Romania or some other small country, convincing them they were being invaded. It was also a light comedy.

Sounds like that movie with Bill Murray and the RV (Stripes) might have taken that earlier idea?
