Box Office: 'Joker' Goes Crazy With $55M
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | October 13th, 2019 | by Pamela McClintock

Globally, 'Joker' has collected a staggering $544 million. Meanwhile at the specialty box office, 'Parasite' scored the biggest location average in three years with $125,421.

Todd Phillips' Joker is laughing all the way to the bank, earning an outstanding $55 million in its sophomore weekend for a 10-day domestic total of $192.7 million and a massive global haul of $543.9 million.

Joker easily remained at No. 1, although MGM and United Artists Releasing's early Halloween family pic The Addams Family came in a strong No. 2 with $30.3 million, ahead of expectations and more than enough to bury Ang Lee's big-budget Gemini Man, starring Will Smith, which followed at No. 3 with an estimated $20.5 million.

Overseas, Joker remained a powerhouse for Warner Bros., grossing $125.7 million from 79 markets for a foreign cume of $351.2 million.

$544 mil after 10 days.

It is warranted, and word of mouth leads the way.

But how does it compare to “Grouch”?

The so called controversy worked too. Never fails.

I went to see “Ad Astra” on the hope that Hollywood would finally do a good SciFi without all the stupid.
Nope...probably Brad Pitt’s worst acting ever and almost as flawed script as “Last Jedi”

Saw it last Saturday.

Was dark but an excellent movie.

Joaquin Phoenix is such an under-rated Actor.

Today’s Hollywood actors pale in comparison to his craft.

Refreshing, thoughtful, not the standard fare comic book buffet.

I’ve been avoiding this movie because the left have targeted to be a representation of the president..is this true? I never go to movies but early on the joker was being held as a must see flick..now I’m leery about it!

I grew up with Cesar Romero as the Joker. I guess I don’t understand the dark psychotic Jokers of movies of recent decades.

Beautiful visuals. Incredibly accurate science except 1 G on Mars and the moon. Weak plot. Lots of long stares to indicate meaning and conspiracy, too much time emoting instead of acting or doing things. They could have cut out 20 minutes and improved it.
Not sure what I think of a plot that is a lonely, emotionally distant man essentially screaming to the universe “Daadddddyy ....” upon learning he’s alive. And that he has to let go of the father he just found again.
I can’t tell if the movie is supposed to be a metaphor for fathers who abandon their kids or just bad writing.

A lot of it is inspired by Mark Hammill’s joker in the cartoons.

Thanks! Was thinking of seeing Ad Astra.

You saved me some $$$!

Will spend it on the new Zombieland.

DC Batman comic storylines took a pretty dark turn in the 2000s. Old school villains that were robbing for money took a back seat to villains that wanted revenge at any cost.

No. You’re the first I’ve heard mention the theory.
Ok.. SOME leftists might impute some part of the story on Trump, but only because _they_ are crazy. Don’t let the delusions of others stop you from enjoying good content.

The meaning of ad astra is the athiests/agnostics wet dream, that we went searching for god/other life and determined we’re it, and that people react in vastly differently ways when they believe that. And that if we want to search for life, to recognize its all around us already on earth. And to let that sink in.

Whomever told you that is stupid or has an agenda to promote.

Read the plot summary on Wikipedia and found it too depressing. I’ve reached that stage of life where I do not watch films that are depressing. That is why I did not go see 2018’s “And They Shall Not Grow Old” when previously I would have.
