CHULA VISTA, CA A 41-year-old man was jailed Tuesday on suspicion of chasing two teenage bicyclists onto a Chula Vista golf course, striking one of the boys with his car and then punching the teen several times after the two boys apparently threw food at his car.
It happened around 5:45 p.m. Monday at the East Lake Country Club, south of Otay Lakes Road and east of Eastlake Parkway, according to Chula Vista police.
The two boys, 14 and 15 years old, threw food at the suspect's Mercedes-Benz sedan on Fenton Street near Lane Avenue, then the driver chased after the teens, who rode away on bicycles, Lt. Gino Grippo said.
The teens fled south on Lane Avenue before eventually riding onto grass at the golf course, but the driver followed them, struck the 14-year-old boy with his car and punched the victim several times, Grippo said.
California: land of bicycles, food fights and vehicular assaults.
DANG!
Hes gonna pay a high price that many would not, but he did the right thing.
xlnt justifiable.
I’m in SD County. Would like to be on his jury,
he did the right thing.
Youre joking, right?
Are you seriously taking the word of the 14 year old who threw food at the guy’s car in the first place?
I’m guessing he did something like drive over a sidewalk or most a few feet of grass, chased and grabbed the kid and threatened them or maybe slapped them at worst. One thing we do know. It’ll be the last time they throw food at a car and probably the most discipline they’ve had in their life.
Rule no 1in life
Never ever ever respond to teenagers -including your own!
Deadpan them to death !
Deadpan, meaning: Gently inform them that they dodged a bullet merely by the courtesy of your grace...
Read the rest of the story. He is being held on $230,000 bail. You don’t get that kind of bail for tapping a kid on the back of the head. He also stole a backpack and cellphone which the police recovered in his possession. Makes the case pretty open and shut.
The driver also stole the teen’s backpack and cell phone, the lieutenant said.
Paramedics responded and treated the 14-year-old boy at the scene, Grippo said, adding that the boy was not seriously injured.
Officers arrested the driver, later identified as 41-year-old Garrett Perry, and recovered the teen’s backpack and cellphone, he said.
Perry was booked into San Diego Central Jail around 9:35 p.m. Monday on suspicion of one count each of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury and child cruelty causing injury, according to jail records. He was being held in lieu of $230,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Just playin’ thru...
I would have stopped at running over their bikes.
It’d be a long walk back, and they would have to steal others.
Or not running over their bikes, and just padlocking them together. :)
Had the Mercedes been a collectible, I’d admire his restraint.
Every day I am becoming more and more convinced that Mercedes drivers are the biggest a******s on the road, and far worse than BMW drivers.
There are a lot cyclist haters on FR. Just because people ride a bike they think they are above the riders.
Are seriously justifying trying to kill someone for throwing food at a car?
Had some idiot on a bicycle run into side of my car - was riding on sidewalk and went right through intersection
I had the light
Most people on bicycles are total idiots who disregard the traffic laws
Most people don't carry padlocks (concealed or open), so the next best thing is to kill the offenders and steal their property. /s
