Harley Medellin was less than 3 weeks old when he lost his left arm after a driver fleeing police hit his parents' SUV. Now 16, he's a wide receiver for Golden Valley High School's football team in Santa Clarita.

Harley has no memory of the crash that took one of his limbs, but says he prays that nobody gets hurt whenever he sees a chase.

"I’m just like another player in the weight room, on the field, in the classroom.”

Back in 1988, the city of Medellin, Colombia was known as the most dangerous city in the world, due to the drug cartel led by Pablo Escobar. After his death in 1993, the violence slowly began to settle down. I knew that name was familiar.

I wish this young man great success. It’s nice to have the name of Medellin be connected with something so decent and inspiring.

He's got to have one helluva set of triceps on that arm.

A wide receiver? With one arm? How can he catch the ball? Does he ever get into an actual game, or is he just a participation trophy guy?

I think it's great if a one armed kid wants to play sports. Track or soccer would be possible. He could conceivably be an offensive lineman in football. But wide receiver? Maybe his team runs a paleo offense and never throws the ball.

I would need a car and driver to meet that 60 yard throw. :)

My personal best was 66 and 1/2 yards...when I was 16. Iowa discontinued the football throw as a high school field event in 1963. The all time record, set in 1963, was 88 yards! Not many pro quarterbacks can/could do that. I think I read somewhere Bobby Douglas was up around 90 yards.

At 125 pounds in my senior year, I was one of the few that could lift/press more than my weight. 128 was my best. could never throw a football anywhere in that 66 yard range.
