A couple pulled over for speeding this week gave the police officer the best excuse ever: they were in the middle of having a baby. Florida sheriffs deputy Robert Pounds clocked a car going 63 mph in a 45 mph zone at 4:30 a.m. on October 1, and when he approached the vehicle he heard a man yelling, Officer, help!
Officer, you have the right to stop me, Im not even gonna lie, Wilfrid Jean-Louis told Pounds. We have baby coming out, look, look, look! Thats the reason why Im speeding, officer. I dont know what to do.
Naples Daily News reports that Jean-Louis wife Fabienne Gorges was screaming in the passenger seat and the babys head was crowning. Pounds called for backup and immediately jumped into action. He ran to his patrol car to grab latex gloves and a sterile blanket. Then he delivered the baby girl and the entire event was captured on his police cars dash-cam.
CCSCO Sargeant David Drucks was one of the deputies who responded to Pounds call for backup and said he could tell through the radio that Pounds was stressed.
I dont get shook up too easily, but this was a little nerve-wracking just because it was a newborn, he told Naples Daily News. My training kicked in and I just wanted to help mom and the baby.
He said that of all the excuses he has heard for speeding, this one was pretty reasonable.

According to DISRN.com, the new parents were so grateful for the assistance Pounds gave them in welcoming their baby girl into the world that they gave her the middle name Robert in his honor.
In his 26 years as a police officer, Pounds said this is the first time he has helped someone give birth. It was exciting. It was a bit nervewracking, he said. But I was happy to be the one to help these people have their child and Im glad everything turned out okay and I hope the baby grows up to be healthy and happy and live a long, good life.

Glad it ended well.
Awesome!
These stories make me smile. When people do things for the right reasons.
Quick! Pop the radiator cap! We MUST have BOILING WATER for some reason!!!
but once again, our language actually equates somebody catching the baby as some kind of “delivery”..the mom delivers, period.....babies have been born for eons by mothers alone, by themselves.....
I’d have been all “What’s that, dispatch? There’s a hold up in the Bronx? Krushchev’s due at Idlewild? Car 54 en route! Sorry, folks! An ambulance is en route!”
An old waitress that we chatted with for years every Sunday told how she gave birth to two children at home with a mid-wife, one at the hospital with a doctor, and “One at the bottom of the stairs by the front door all alone. Thankfully it wasn’t my first. But really similar to helping a cow give birth so not a big deal.”
“We MUST have BOILING WATER for some reason!!!
Reminds me of the “Honeymooner’s” episode where Ralph and Alice are wanting to adopt a baby. Ralph puts a big HUGE pot of boiling water on the stove.
The adoption agency person is interviewing them and looking over the house. “Oh - maam! And over here we keep a pot of boiling water - you never know when that might come in handy. Yep - always be prepared you know!”
The car interior must be a mess.....
Not a snowflake.
Nice story.
Wonder what the speeding tickets are going to cost him?
65 years ago, when I was 5, a motorcycle cop pulled us over at 1:00 in the morning as my dad was speeding to the hospital for my sister’s birth. She wasn’t yet crowning, so we got a police escort—lights, siren, speeding and all. Very exciting and memorable!
Smile? They make me tear.
The officer should have called “The Trunk Monkey”!

One of my ancestors in the 19th century was a midwife in a village in Europe. She wasn't the only midwife in the village but once when one of her own children was being born there was no midwife there, so her husband had to fill in. I don't know if she told him to boil water or not.
I’d have given him the ticket for speeding, and a child not secured in a baby seat. ...... been a great story for the judge .
