In Exodus, chapter 1, when Pharaoh has ordered the midwives to kill any baby boys born to the Hebrew women, the midwives claim that the Hebrew women give birth before the midwives get there.

One of my ancestors in the 19th century was a midwife in a village in Europe. She wasn't the only midwife in the village but once when one of her own children was being born there was no midwife there, so her husband had to fill in. I don't know if she told him to boil water or not.
