On Sunday, September 15, Marie-Ange Brumelot had just crested a hill in Central Park on her third and final lap of an 18-mile race hosted by the New York Road Runners. At that point, she spotted her husband, Luciano Medina, ahead of her.
I didnt realize he was in the lead, Brumelot, 26 of the Bronx, told Runners World. There were nearly 5,000 runners participating, running anything from six minutes to 14 minutes per mile, so we were lapping people. Of course I wanted to catch him.
Brumelot, who is running the Chicago Marathon on October 13, planned a hard training effort for the hilly course, aiming for around 10 seconds slower than her goal marathon pace of 5:50 per mile. She ended up executing her plan almost perfectly, averaging 6:03 miles all the way to the finish line.
What Brumelot didnt expect, though, was that when she passed her husband in the final stretch and crossed the line in 1:48:43, she would end up being the winner of the NYC Marathon Training Series 18-miler.
Its a huge deal to win an NYRR race, even if this one had less competition than others, said Medina, 34, who finished second in 1:50:16. I took it out quick, but I didnt realize I was winning until I had just a few miles to go. Then on the third lap, my wife passed me, and I was like, Wow. I didnt think she would beat me. Even though she says she wasnt racing, she finished quite fast.
After the race, Brumelot posted an Instagram with the hashtag #FasterThanMyHusband, which she said is something all spouses of runners should strive for. I encourage every runner I meet to try to run faster than their husbands, too, Brumelot said. We compete for house PRs.

As always, wife-beating is bad, but husband-beating is good.
Domestic Abuse, plain and simple. Another example of a woman beating her husband.
Beat her with a rake.
Lolol. Obviously he let her win.
Shoulda stuck his foot out.
Rosy Ruiz-thought she died.
NYC, who cares?
She went to that Big Cabana In The Sky two months ago.
Then, she should stop beating her husband.
Phrasing! That could have been worded differently, unless the author thought it was kind of a joke.
Was she arrested?
And I can guarantee that they’re the proudest Trump voters in the city of New York!!
“Obviously he let her win.”
Happy wife, happy life...
reminds me of the book DOUBLE FAULT by Lionel Shriver. about a tennis playing couple.
She is a great writer and her book THE MANDIBLES is a must read dystopian novel of the future taking current policies to their obvious conclusion.
Because vagina and dopamine. It’s all about the feels.
Nope, not staged at all.
Totally legit.
More girl power nonsense.
The difference between sexes in physical capability when there is real competition is profound.
In a legitimate race such as the Boston Marathon where milliseconds can decide the winner and second place, the leading male finishes 10-15 MINUTES ahead of the winning female. In 2018 it was close to 20 minutes due to difficult running conditions.
In lower competition, there is always a woman who can potentially outperform a given man, but as you rise to the top of the pyramid (the top 25% competitors of both sexes) women have no shot. It isn’t even close.
Like you, I see this as a silly “girl power” thing, although being a married couple does add humor to it.
