I don’t have a problem with Amazon doing this, although I am sure that they factored in the value of their virtue signalling.

Of course Bozos has a controlling interest in the van company.

From the referenced article…
"Since the van will be used for “last-mile” Prime deliveries, the vans won’t contribute to localized [??? emphasis added] pollution in urban and suburban communities."

Regarding pollution, pollution is pollution. The politically correct term “localized pollution” seems to be alarmists moving the goal posts by suggesting that it’s ok if the pollution generated to make power for your electric vehicle is somebody else’s problem, effectively that it’s OK to dump your garbage over your fence into your neighbor’s yard.

Also, electric vehicles with motors that use brushes produce ozone, let’s call it nominal ozone. Couldn’t find any numbers for ozone for Rivian vehicles.

Insights welcome.

Bozos may have waited too long for that?
Ford previously put 500 MILLION DOLLARS into Rivan and plan to use the platform with a Ford body.

Cox Automotive put in 350 MILLION a few weeks back.

Gotta hunch, buy a bunch!

Would it not be problematic if you need to run heat or air conditioning?

Ultraviolet radiation (sunlight) and oxygen make ozone.

Good stuff for water treatment.

Most EVs use three-phase AC or DC brushless drive motors.

I think they change from model to model.

A fun bit:
The AC unit of a mid-size car is about 3+ tons.
About the same as a mid-size house (2000 sq ft)!

Rumor has it they’re actually powered by Mr. Fusion and can travel through time.

I wonder why Bezos didn’t order them from Terry McAuliffe’s electric car company?

Bezos may be somewhat whacked, but he ain’t crazy.

I heard that they upgraded to the famous E-Cat power supply.
And now that the Rossi guy took all of their money, thay had to forgo the time travel function.

And the E-Cat Cold Fusion reactor was a dud!

Thanks for clarification about EV motors and ozone.

Additional rants concerning electric vehicles…

I accept brags of EV manufactures that their vehicles accelerate faster than gas engine vehicles. My problem is that although EV’s leaving gas vehicles in dust to prove who is king of road may be an effective marketing strategy, doing so is not green, a waste of battery energy imo.

And speaking of battery energy, last winter reports of EV batteries not holding their charge in lower temperatures is not encouraging.

Where are all these amps supposed to come from?

Daytime peak electic production is about twice daytime average, day average is twice night average.

During the day Amazon will be delivering all your new toys, at night the trucks are being loaded and recharged.

For fleet operation, charging is staggered, Bezos isn’t going to pay for some monster electric service. He just takes a few amps at a time all night long.

Fear not, your stuff will be delivered on time.

If you look at the comments on the EV sites, you see the sam in the comments.
Musk says”As long as they spell the name right”...

last winter reports of EV batteries not holding their charge in lower temperatures is not encouraging.

As bad as some say the batteries are in the cold, they are selling well in Norway?.

In the first half of this year, electric vehicles made up 55% of personal vehicle sales in Norway, up from 6% in 2013...
over the last six years. In the period, sales of diesel cars have dropped by 95%...
The share of gasoline-burning cars has dropped to 17%, down from 29%, ...
Norwegian statistics agency. The mid-sized Model 3 was its most-sold vehicle.

Consumers’ resulting shift to electric hasn’t just hit diesel hard, it’s weakened demand for plug-in hybrids too, says Rystad. When Norwegians go electric, they prefer to go all the way.https://fortune.com/2019/08/21/tesla-electric-vehicles-norway/

Who was that FR group that was pimping the e-cat stuff. It was funny at the time. Looking back, not so much. There was one guy that was addicted to it. Don’t get me wrong, if it was real - great but it obviously wasn’t.

This, from a state that seems to believe that electricity magically appears from unicorn farts...

And, by the way, I'm not in love with Amazon delivery. So far, it's been two weeks to get a book from Indiana. Apparently, they toss it out the window in Terra Haute in the hope someone is walking West...

Wander Indiana!

I do hope they were wandering westward when walking, as you wait.

Like Musk or not, performance numbers are a major draw.

And really, that performance costs every little in an electric car, in terms of battery, because conversion is so efficient.

MOSFETs and IGBT semiconductors waste less power when operated at their maximum performance.

Additionally, when you hit 60 in 2.5s, you can’t realistically keep holding down the go pedal for much longer in most places.

Most heating occurs in the battery pack, and again, not for long in typical use. You keep that pedal planted and you will hit 165mph not too much longer after.

Finally ozone is not generated in either motor tech used by Tesla. Brushed motors are much more efficient than a gas engine, but are limited drastically in comparison to a induction or brushless motor.

What could destroy Tesla is their chassis designs and assembly quality. Their power train is bar none the best you can get in the electric automotive world.

You cannot purchase open source induction motors with intermittent 450hp operation. Not even racing grade motors. The Tesla induction motor is literally top tier tech, and the performance numbers of the cars are proof of it.
