For centuries the Royal Navy defended Britain from invasion and turned this island nation into a global superpower.
Now the Senior Services role in our history is being celebrated by the Royal Mail even if the navy and our place in the world are rather less grand than they used to be.
A set of eight stamps, covering 500 years, will commemorate some the navys key ships, starting with Henry VIIIs Mary Rose of 1511, and concluding with the giant aircraft carrier, the Queen Elizabeth.

It has been a long time since I added any stamps to my collection, but this set looks like a winner.

An uninspiring set of choices, the same ships that have been on the list for years, excepting QEII. No 74 gun ship of the line and no frigate. I would add HMS Bellona 74 and HMS Boreas 28.

Very ironic choice of words. The once mighty British navy once ruled the seas.
Today, they still talk about sea power, but it is only just talk. The only ships they launch today are on stamps!

I see the denomination is Pounds, not Euros! What about the first two? This side of the pond would say “first” but I presume that is Pounds Sterling.

I might have suggested HMT Juniper, lost in action June 8, 1940, while attacking (without assistance) the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Admiral Hipper, and four German destroyers...

Thanks!
The date threw me off.
Was she really 40 years old when she fought at Trafalgar?

In the History of the Royal Navy there were so many ships that valiantly serve the King or Queen. The Brits could have issued 100s of stamps recognizing the service of the ships of the Royal Navy.

How about HMS Campbeltown from the raid at St. Nazaire?
