Could be spending money before the end of the fiscal year.

Hi.

An adversary would need much sea lift capability too invade a country with connections to the ocean.

Reminds me of the Turbo button on early PCs.

Yep. If the "Install the math co-processor" order goes out, you know we're headed for DEFCON 1.

I received a report of an National Guard engineer battalion being activated for overseas duty.

I am familiar with the battalion in question. I almost joined it, I was asked to do it.

It has been top-notch, one of the best National Guard battalions in the country.

You have to wonder what Iran, Russia and China will think about this. Of course it probably depends on what is loaded onto them and what direction the ships take.

I sincerely hope they load a bunch of M1 Abrams tanks, surface to air missiles, armored vehicles, etc. and then head toward the Middle East (both across the Pacific and the Atlantic). That would spice things up a bit.

“Most of these ships are pre-loaded with equipment and supplies.”

You’re talking about pre-positioned ships. These aren’t those. These stay in port (I know around Orange, Tx., possibly other places). Several of them are going through their 5 year yard availability. I know this because I can look out my office window and see three of them, one in our shipyard and two in another shipyard close by. Two of the three are on drydocks.

There is some normal rotation of units overseas, to support ongoing operations/deployments (like Afghanistan and Iraq), but not the kind of activations that might require dozens of RORO ships (each of which could deploy a Brigade’s worth of equipment - enough ships for another Desert Storm).

I read that, too. I read ‘turbo’ and went into Code RED!

Ping.

It was the logistical train that won the Pacific War.

Could be a normal rotation.

The National Guard troops have shown themselves to be excellent troops at their jobs.

Not just the Pacific War. The entire war.

We did not outsmart and outfight the Germans, though we did pretty well. The Soviets lost about twice as many as the Germans did, fighting them.

We absolutely outproduced them. (That included lots of aid to the Soviets)

You look at Russian actions in Europe, as a response to what happened in the Great Patriotic War (Soviet name for WWII), and they make a lot of sense.

One thing we don't need to do is generate all sorts of wild suppositions and other hawkish plans...

To me the exercise is merely the preparation for bringing ALL our troops home from the middle east and Germany as part of a planned glassification project... We just need to get our troops to safety... That's all... NBD...
