in the middle of the night I would do the same. Her daughter must be retarded to think that a surprise visit in the middle of the night is acceptable.
Useing the word retarded in a negative way is unacceptable. I have little brothers who are autistic, with all the words available please expand you're vocabulary but remove that word. It's 2019 and I'd like to think we are better then this
Really? the word simply means slower than, which by definition such individuals are. I am sorry that autism has struck your family so hard. But I will not change my vocabulary just to make you feel better. But do have a nice day
My original comment on first line, a PC Speech Police type second line, and my response on third line. FB has not pulled it.
This is the way to shut the PC types down when it comes to free speech, IMO
People like this see “retarded” as an offensive label.
I’m looking 10-20 years down the road and I think “autistic” will be seen as an offensive label.
There is no winning. Labels are labels. Name-calling is name-calling.
I don’t see any harm in saying “retarded” to describe (label) someone who seems a little slow. But calling them a “spaz” might be insulting (name-calling).
Crushing the larynx of these PC cretins would be so much more fun and satisfying, though.
It is a shame that we must all walk on eggshells these days. I taught physics for many years. And in physics a retarding force is a force that slows an object down. For example, friction.
I will not change that wording. But at the same time I dont linger over it. I quickly explain what it means, then move on. I wont give anyone time to make a joke, or voice an objection.
the way to fight them on a personal level is being polite but refusing to bend to their whims. I am truly surprised that FB didn’t pull my comment immediately.
What always works for me is to laugh at them. Seriously.
Wait. What? We can’t say ‘spaz’ now?!
these people want to be angry, to respond to them in a way which does not allow them to fly into hysterics is an injury to them that is far worse then what you suggest.
my default is to kill them with kindness. LOL
I haven’t used “spaz” in many years, I might have to bring it back now and again. LOL
I dont recall the comic, but years ago someone noted that the language was changing so as not to offend people.
We no longer called retarded children retarded, we were calling them delayed.
Imagine how pissed theyre going to be in a few years when they realize what the word delayed really means.
Except spastic once was a respectable label to describe someone who didnt have control of his bodylike cerebral palsy. Of course kids and some adults used it to describe the athletically challenged.
Yep. Wnen you put the two together it can be extra fun.
I haven't heard it in my neck of the woods since the mid-1960s.
I've told my kids about the slang words and expressions kids used back when I was in elementary school and high school. "Spaz" was one. Another was to throw something at someone and say "think fast!" right after it left your hand. Also calling someone a "spud." There are a few more I can't bring to mind.
There have been many changes in language.
We don’t say colored people anymore.
We don’t say Negro anymore.
Many do not say Indians anymore to refer to American Indian peoples.
We aren’t supposed to say Oriental, somehow that became politically incorrect.
Very few use the word gay according to its dictionary definition because gaynhas evolved to mean homosexual.
And I understand we aren’t supposed to say homosexual either.
We don’t say Mongoloid anymore.
We don’t say German measles.
I’m sure there are other examples of this, where formerly accepted words either are just not said anymore, or that the politically correct crowd has deemed to be offensive.
The wording of your statement is proof that Liberalism is retardation! LOL
