SCITUATE A minke whale carcass was found Monday afternoon in the surf at Humarock Beach, making for the fourth found in the region this summer.
At the beach, New England Aquariums marine animal rescue team found the carcass of a 22-foot-long sub-adult. The whale is believed to have died within the last few days.
The carcass had been significantly scavenged by sharks. A full necropsy couldnt be performed because of the amount of tissue that had been eaten, but the good condition of the skin on the pectoral fins and back indicated that the whale had died recently. There was no fishing gear or other evidence of human interaction that might have caused the death, the aquarium said. Scituate town officials disposed of the carcass Tuesday morning.

This will give our local surfers something to think about.
White sharks are in our area well into October, I have first hand knowledge of this. - Tom
I hear that dynamite does the trick. [/slinking away]
I bet Freeper surrey has been to that beach recently. -Tom
It promotes that killer instinct in many different species of fish that would otherwise be great in my Aquarium.......if only they could all "just get along"...../s
Hehehehe..must...resist...link...to...exploding...whale...must...resist...
Is that your minke?
Micheal Moore in a wet suit in the Cap Cod surf. Hey, I can dream can’t I?
No evidence of fishing gear. May have run afoul of underwater power lines.
I told them not to run the power lines underwater, ‘don’t you know you’re going shock the minke?’
[[There was no fishing gear or other evidence of human interaction that might have caused the death,]]
I suspect those minke whales Vaped Ecigs-
There's sure something drawing the sharks. Maybe you've a serial killer mixing menhaden oil in the suntan lotion.
What are you, blind?
Yes.
Oh I see, yes...yes
if you allude to that - you should post for younger freepers who may not have seen
I am challenged in posting of such videos
Do you remember the Scituate Sea Monster that washed up on Mann Hill Beach in November 1970?
LOL.
The only reason I stopped by.
I remember whip grass cutting our ankles, a coolish strong breeze and ice cold water.
I don't remember having any fun.
If cel phones are so dangerous, waddabout those underwater electrical cables ?
I remember the conclusion being it was a deteriorated basking shark that had washed ashore.
No shortage of "baskers" in this area. -Tom
Us New Englanders go to the beach for the SUN,SAND AND SEA.
We take an umbrella to avoid the sun, a blanket to keep us off the sand, and we don't spend much time in the cold water.
Otherwise we enjoy day at the beach. - Tom
Used t'vacay in Manomet.
Fishin' from a little dingy and meeting other vacay girls on the beach at night.
Swim ?
Not on your life, unless we go down by Bourne Bridge or "souther"
I spent a lot of time in Manomet especially at "Trips Livery" where I would rent a boat, row out and go mackerel fishing. -Tom
