Thirty years ago, I would have agreed with you. Of course, I knew everything at that point in my life.
If you aren’t too sure which Church God wants you in, but you are sure that you should get hitched before making babies, you are doing ok in my books.
Of course, I’m not God, and His books are what count—and He hasn’t revealed everything to me, so in this case, I am quite content to say both “Who am I to judge” and “getting married anywhere at that age is statistically above average—FWIW.”

Get married in a church in front of God. I read that they were planning a more formal ceremony later this year. Did you ever consider that they were a young couple, and maybe they couldn't financially tackle more formal trimmings?

Get married in a church Come on, man! They could just as easily have been in a similarly fatal accident leaving the church. Would that have made you feel better?
Condolences to the family. What should have been a joyous occasion will now be remembered by their loved ones as an awful tragedy.
