I got shingles at age 35. Dr said I was youngest he had seen. My dad had it same time. We had visited my mom in hospital later found out her roommate had CP. I had CP in 2nd grade. Shingles on my torso very painful 2 weeks. I wore no bra and wore very soft large cotton short. Ouch!

My brother ran into a guy who had shingles on his feet. He told him to hold on and went to his truck for a tube of silver biotics gel that he always has with him (our entire family won’t be without it). Anyway the guy flagged him down one day and said “that stuff really worked”. Not trying to play doctor but I know personally the benefits of it. He might give it a try. I give tubes out at church and the people are amazed at how much better their skin ailments are. Don’t forget to pray. . .God is the Ultimate Healer!!! You have to shop around because there are rip off artists out there!

I had the Shingrix shots last year, both of them. I had an adverse reaction in that I had a sore arm and felt like I had the flu for a couple days. It was no big deal.

That being said, I don’t ever want to get shingles.

I would recommend architectural shingles. The 3 tab asphalt shingles don’t look as good, don’t last as long and are less wind resistant.

My mother got the shingles when she was about 75. It stayed with her for the rest of her life. She died at age 93. The shingles would regularly flare up and bite her hard in the arm.

As of 10 years ago you could be completely cured of shingles if you got to treatment within 72 hours of the first flare up. I don’t know what the state of the art is now.

I got the early vaccine when I turned 60. As soon as the latest vaccine became available I got the first and second doses. There was a long waiting list.

Getting the vaccine is not going to hurt you. But do a web search. I had shingles once. Not fun, even if it’s a “light” case.

“Just took both shots md highly recommended it for 55 yrs old
That being said both shots made me ill!”

My younger sister (55) had the same reaction to the set of two shots. I see my VA MD in October so I’ll see what she says.

I’ve never taken a flu shot, either. I have had the flu 2x in my adult life. I get one head cold each year, usually around Easter and I usually catch it from Beau and it knocks me flat.

Fresh air, sunshine and living FAR AWAY from germy little kids helps, a LOT. So HAPPY I am no longer in a job where I deal with the General Public every day of the week. ;)

I had shingles when I was in the 10th grade. My doctor was shocked...I’m 58 and haven’t had another case. I don’t think I would get a vaccine.

I’m in my 80s and recently had the first of two shingle shots. No problem or reaction with the first. The virus used in the shots are dead.

the new vaccine uses adjuvants (squalene/shark liver oil, aluminum salts, etc.), which are chemicals designed used specifically mess with your immune system ... personally i avoid all vaccines with adjuvants ...

the old vaccine doesn’t have adjuvants, but the claim is that it’s less effective ...

https://www.google.com/search?q=vaccine+adjuvants&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b

it’s also not clear whether one actually needs the vaccine after already having shingles ...

I had shingles in my mid 20s. It went from my forehead down the side of my face and around my eye. It was painful and the sores were ugly. I still have the scars on my forehead and I’m pushing 60. For over 15 years I still felt the nerves acting up. It mostly felt like a continuous sensation of a thread being pulled through my skin. Other times like a bee sting.

If your sibling lived in same home you probably did have CP. I was older and gave every infectious disease to my bro except CP. The reason he didn’t catch CP was because he was only a month old and had immunity from my mom. That immunity lasts about 6 months.

my advice to you is to never seek medical advice from an internet message forum.

You can get a herpes zoster titer and it will tell you if you are immune or not.

Schedule the day after you get the shot as an off day. The first shot wasn’t too bad - sore arm (expected) and felt a little “blah”. My Fibit told me I slept for 15 hours the day after the second shot.

I am told that getting the shot will not stop an active shingles episode. That the vaccine only prevents future outbreaks. I am not a medical professional so you will have to get a more educated opinion.

That being said, I am a strong proponent of voluntary vaccination and have taken just about every possible vaccine with the possible exception of Japanese Encephalitis due to travel for work. Yes, even anthrax and rabies.
