Might as well plan on 16 because we’re going to double again.
Carolinians couldn’t care less because only yankee tourists are using 95 and the state has the lowest cost gasoline in the country because gas taxes are so low. I suggest that if you don’t like it, take the long route through Georgia on 75. BTW, there is much construction and improvement on Int 85 upstate in SC......
Same but worse now. The blocks ar broken with more tar.
The ramps at Checotah? Never touched since built and worse every year. I think when the load of bombs exploded there years ago it improved it.
Fedzilla pays for the build, but interstates are owned and maintained by the states.
Wanna know why your interstates are going to hell, check out your state’s budget.
Five stars for this article...
Years ago, Missourians found out a portion of the gasoline tax was being siphoned off for education.
To resolve the situation, we had a statewide-vote and amended our state constitution to stop gas taxes being used for other than transportation spending. The wailing from the NEA was deafening.
Now we just have to fend off the bicycle-riders.
I used to see Kurds over on Murphy Rd. back in the 90s. The old folks were getting the full ride from the taxpayers.
95 between Florence and South of the border is a death trap.
You misspelled ‘federal taxpayer graft’
I -95 doesn’t go through western Connecticut. It runs North/South along the coast from New York state to Rhode Island. I - 684 runs north/south along the edge of the NY/CT border. It connects with I - 84 in eastern NY that will take you through CT into Massachusetts, connecting with the Mass Pike. Just FYI.
Strangely, Northeastern Tennessee roads are pretty good. But I was amazed at how poor the roads leading into the Knoxville area were. It took about two hours to get from Gatlinburg to Knoxville. I only stayed in Upland parts of South Carolina, but those Road seemed pretty good. Frankly, Tennessee was a relief after driving I-81 in Virginia, which was two lanes when it needed to be at least three.

To mill and resurface a 4-lane road, it costs an average of $1.25 million per mile in 2016.

Boy, ain’t those union kick-back contracts the BEST?! Wonder what it would cost in the REAL world, w/ real competitive bidding, etc.
Yes, people forget we have some of the lowest property taxes, sales and lower gasoline prices than many other States and we get less Federal $ because we dont want it. I admit I havent been on I-95 for a long while but it was never 3rd world like the article says. Maybe we just want to make sure that whoever passes through SC keeps on going.
It’s been a long time since I’ve driven I-95 through South Carolina. I don’t know what the best solution might be. But I do know that we are still running a defacto open borders policy, with catch and release, sanctuary cities, chain migration, birthright citizenship, and a farcical asylum system custom-built for abuse. As long as that remains the case, we will continue to double the population every 50 years or so. And I am quite confident that we will not/cannot double our road net every 50 years. On our current course, we are going to have dense urban sprawl from Maine to Florida and from the piedmont to the coast. If we don’t control the borders, our children will have to fundamentally change the way they get around. It’s not a matter of adding a lane here and there to I-95. It’s a matter of doubling highway capacity every generation, and that’s not going to happen.
Boy, are you all missing the solution here. Light rail and buses. That solves the problem.
Of course, you all have to move into the big cities for that to work. And get rid of your white-privilege cars.
VIVA #301 4ever!!! ...LOL
The road condition is on purpose.
Just trying to keep the Yankees out.
Speaking of the bicycle extremists, dont miss yesterdays Pearls Before Swine.

Just did it and there’s no comparison. That drive sucked.
The only sucky part of going 95 South for me is Northern Virginia. NY, NJ and CT is Northern Va on roids.
In 1956 my dad drove the family from NY to Miami for an Easter vacation. We saw all the signs for hours getting to Florida. We drove through the place. Dad said this place must cost a fortune and we left and found a bungalow court. On the way back to NY we didnt even stop to look.
