Listen to Taurus for yourself, starting at 0:45. Zeppelin opened for Spirit and must have heard this song at some point. That, and given Zeppelin's predeliction to, erm, borrow from other musicians and bands, I don't see how anyone could rule for Zeppelin.

The main issue for me, however, is that Randy California never sued before his tragic death...if he didn't want to sue, then his estate suing is odd to say the least.

Besides, everyone knows Zeppelin's best song is Achilles Last Stand.

Screw that. Maybe 10 seconds of an 8 minute song appear in this song.

led Zeppelin has done FAR worse in the theft department than this :)

But whatever they stole, they sounded a thousand time better than the original so who cares anyway?

BTW..it HAS been a long time since I rock and rolled.

i think I’d get a hernia at this point :)

I smiled when I watched an interview with Robert plant and he was putting down Greta Van Fleet for copying their sound.

>> the only work subject to copyright protection was the sheet music, because the song was written before Congress changed the law in 1972, which gave protection to sound recordings.

Some have argued that such a stance makes many famous guitar solos “public domain” works.

Play the classic riff in your “new” song and have a recognizable hit.

I would have liked to have seen someone go up to Peter Grant back in the day and try to tell them that Zeppelin was ripping off other artists.

George Harrison got sued for “My Sweet Lord” because they said it was a ripoff of The Chiffon’s “Hes So Fine.” Harrison said: “it’s the same chords but not the same song.”

Well, Katy Perry just got sued millions over a copyright infringement where there is a four note line in the arrangement that is similar.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4MuhPqfIk4

According to this Led Zeppelin should also pay out big money for copyright infringement. So why does Zeppelin get off and Perry pay millions thru the nose?

As far a Achilles Last Stand goes — it’s the kind of song that makes Zeppelin into two different bands. When you hear

1. In My Time of Dying
2. For Your Life
3. Trampled Under Foot
4. Nobody’s Fault but Mine
5. Achilles Last Stand

you go, “Uh? Is this the same band?”

A big part of music is about improvising and even improving on what came before.

I just listened to "Taurus" by Spirit and I can assure you that nobody is going to delete "Stairway to Heaven" from their music library in favor of "Taurus."

I might put on "Taurus" if I wanted to put a crying baby to sleep.
