Teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg plans to take her message to the United States - but instead of flying, she's going to set sail across the Atlantic after shunning planes.
The Swedish teenager, who inspired tens of thousands of school students across the world to skip class for a day to protest for faster action against climate change, said she spent months trying to figure out how to travel to the US without flying on a plane. She said she has ruled out using them due to their high greenhouse gas emissions.
The 16-year-old tweeted that she plans to leave Britain in August aboard the Malizia II to attend the United Nations climate summits in New York in September and Santiago, Chile, in December.

2 to three weeks isn’t that unusual in nearly ideal sailing conditions; indeed many of the great old sailing ships of the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries often did it. However, with bad winds and storms it could easily stretch out to several months. Be cool to see what would happen if the little witch got caught in a hurricane.

Personally, I am not impressed by anyone who “inspires” teenagers to skip class for a day. When I was a teen, there hardly a cause on the face of the planet for which I would have refused to skip a day of class. This is not a heroic act! Although, if I could not in good conscience support the cause, I would have been willing to skip classes to support the protest against the cause. In fact if there was no protest against, I would have been quite willing to start a protest.
