Reminder: Democrats ran the KKK, started the Civil War, celebrated slavery and fought against

Full Title: Reminder: Democrats ran the KKK, started the Civil War, celebrated slavery and fought against the Civil Rights Act

(NationalSentinel) For all of its existence, the American Democrat Party has stood for distinctly anti-American principles and values, but thanks to a fully co-opted “mainstream media” that serves as the party’s propaganda division, far too many citizens don’t know that.

For instance, they don’t know that the Democrat Party, only recently, “embraced” minorities, seemed to embrace true “equality,” and began vocalizing support for civil rights – all positions the party vehemently and consciously opposed for more than 200 years.

As noted by Prof. Carol Swain, who teaches political science at Vanderbilt University, the Democrat Party defended slavery, actually started the Civil War, founded the Ku Klux Klan, and battled against every single major civil rights act in our country’s history.

In a video she narrated for PragerU Swain, who is black, begins:

When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind – the Republicans or the Democrats? Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect. Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative and has a long history of discrimination

Swain’s report is particularly relevant in today’s political environment as the far Left, which is taking over the Democrat Party, seeks to not only hide the party’s history but brand the GOP as the party of racists, bigots, homophobes, and authoritarians – led by POTUS Donald Trump, whose own very public history is one of racial equality and harmony, not of bigotry and hate.

On March 28, 1864, there was a riot involving Copperheads (southern-sympathizing “Peace Democrats”) and Union soldiers in Charleston, Illinois, Land of Lincoln. A judge kicked off some controversy when he allowed four Union deserters to walk free. The Copperheads alleged that Union soldiers had “humiliated” the judge by forcing him to take an oath of loyalty to the Union.

Other Union soldiers were called in to maintain get things under control in Charleston but by the time they arrived, the Copperheads had been run out of town. Peace Democrats were not just in opposition to the Union war effort, but they also spread alarm among whites about what would happen if lots of emancipated slaves were to arrive on the scene.

LOL! I've often pointed out the strange fact of people calling themselves Republicans and coming to a conservative website venerating a bunch of treasonous, slave supporting Southern Segregationist Dixiecrats. Boy, some of the epithets I've had thrown at me.

No, it shouldn't end at slavery. Not when people like Al Gore's father filibustered for 16 straight hours against passage of the civil rights act and today every major city run the Democrat machine is a poverty and crime infested sh!thole that is the modern day equivalent of a slave plantation. I used to be a liberal Democrat. I know how they think and how the act.

Dems were and still are the fascists too. Antifa is the biggest fascists. They stop the free expression of ideas and try to stifle free speech. They are also violent. They should be taken to jail.

The only problem I saw with the video was the claim that Nathan Bedford Forrest founded the KKK. Although he served briefly as Grand Wizard, Forrest was not a founder.

I don’t think too many of us here are particularly amused with the filthy Central Government bequeathed by Lincoln! Hmmm?

The sick irony is that there were slave owners who treated slaves better than the modern Democrats treat the blacks today in every American ghetto. I see for example the rat infested ghetto wasteland of Baltimore as one big slave plantation being run by the DNC.

Very astute points you make...especially the fallacy of comparing democrats then and now.

I agree totally. Comparing Democrats of 1860 to Democrats of today is ludicrous. In addition let’s say you could. So what? Do you think that most blacks will embrace whites and the GOP?

“I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races … I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races from living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be a position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”

Dat dog don't hunt.

In 1860, Northerners were primarily secularly-minded and the Republicans were the party of big taxes, big government and the sovereignty of the federal government.

Southerners were religious-minded and Democrats were for small government, low taxes, and the sovereignty of the individual states.

Too bad if that doesn't suit your ad hominem attacks against the demoncrats, but many planks of their respective platforms have swapped sides of the aisle since then.

It’s as if the original democrats were the Tories who got left behind.

The emancipation proclamation affected only the confedrate states. Lincoln used it more as a weapon against the South rather than out of altruism. My understanding.

“...the Democrat Party defended slavery, actually started the Civil War...”

The Civil War was about far more than slavery which was only a smallish component of a far larger economic package of issues. This woman is allowed to teach? Maybe she should learn and study about what she is teaching.

The highest concentration of Tories was in the middle northern colonies such as New Jersey and New York

But nice try fella

Isn’t dumping slavery and segregation and Jim Crow and not embracing Civil Rights legislation largess on me and my ancestry enough for you?

Now we are also loyalist to George III as well

I’ll tell you what we are

We’re the most dependable white voting bloc in America

And the fact some posters here along with GOPe and nevertrumper deep state think they can manipulate the minority vote by bashing us incessantly demonstrates volumes about what’s wrong with our nation and culture

It is why when one day the dust settles

All of this will seem stupid and naive and above all...weak

There were quite a few Tories in the south mainly from the upper crust. Out fitted an number of cavalry units that earned a reputation for “No Quarter” fighting.
