ESCAPE FROM SOBIBOR (1987) starring Rutger Hauer
YouTube ^

In memory of Rutger Hauer, here is one of the finest portrayals. As a Russian army officer who leads hundreds of his fellow Jews to rise up against their captors in one of the worst of the Nazi death camps. Hauer won a Golden Globe for his role as "Sasha" Perchesky.

Escape From Sobibor premiered as a TV movie on CBS in the spring of 1987. But despite the medium it remains one of the most powerful films about the Holocaust ever produced. It has also been called remarkably faithful to the events that transpired.

Escape From Sobibor (full movie), 1987

Hauer’s grittiest role..?

Hobo With a Shotgun:

They deliberately used a very “roadhouse”, minimalist style with this unusual, “good enough” movie.

The theme is justice & revenge.

Great movie. I also liked him in Blind Fury and Flesh and Blood. Back in the 90s, he was one of the very few actors I would watch a film simply because he was in it.

Hauer was a guest on Dennis Miller’s radio show, and Miller told Hauer “My kids really liked Hobo With a Shotgun”.

Hauer was taken aback, asked how old Miller’s kids were.

“High School”, iirc.
