Dadashev was placed in a medically induced coma following a 2-hour surgery early Saturday morning during which a portion of his skull was removed to reduce swelling caused by a brain bleed, ESPN reported. Dadashevs doctors reportedly informed his team that he was showing signs of severe brain damage, but cautioned the full extent of the injuries couldnt be assessed until the swelling subsided.
On Tuesday, Dadashevs trainer, Buddy McGirt, and his strength and conditioning coach, Donatas Janusevicius, told ESPN the young boxing pro had died.
The formerly undefeated boxer from St. Petersburg lost to Puerto Rico's Subriel Matias, 27, Friday night in the 11th round of an IBF junior welterweight world title eliminator match.

PING
[T]itle eliminator match and he got eliminated....
Hi.
Watch for the incoming...
MMA is more entertaining and humane in the pugalstic sports.
Imho.

Wonder if Matias said “if he dies, he dies...”
That fight should have been stopped! I can see that from the photos. The kid was dying before the fight ended.
I'm the son of a "Golden Gloves" boxer who quit before going pro. We watched lots of TV fights when I was young.
The object of the “sport” is to induce a concussion. A concussion is head trauma with a loss of consciousness. Depending on the force of the blow and its location, bleeding into the brain and irreversible swelling followed by loss of function or death occasionally happens. People have been entertained throughout recorded history by such “sport”. There is something immensely appealing to watch a person exercising his most aggressive and violent instincts which are hardwired in all for survival. Ever wonder why war movies and violent police shows are so popular as well? Such “sport”, legal or illegal will remain in all cultures as long as they exist.
“Two Men Enter, One Man Leaves.”
Very sad. Prayers up for not only Maxim’s family, but for Matias as well.. this will affect him for the rest of his life.
Damn fine warrior. Boxing and MMA are definitely the antithesis of “sweet science.” RIP.
(Ironically, I watched Pulp Fiction last night. The scene with Butch and taxi driver Esmeralda Villalobos is tragically coincidental.)
Ray ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini immediately comes to mind, after his Korean opponent died in a fight. It still haunts him to this day.
If you go to the Daily Mail site you can see video of the boxer's trainer telling him that he's getting hit too much and begging him to let him stop the fight, but the boxer refused. An argument could be made that he should have stopped it anyway, or the referee should have stopped it sooner, but the fighter refused to quit.
I thought the boxer’s manager could stop a fight by the act of throwing in the towel.
Is that just Hollywood depiction?
The young boxer most likely wasn’t even aware of his own injuries by the end of the fight and wasn’t even able to make the judgment to end the fight.
The goal of boxing is to survive the brain damage and 30 years later suffer the ailments.
Kind of like football.
Poor guy. RIP.
Boxing: the Neanderthal sport
There's no criminal guilt here, but the referee should have prevailed, placing his body between the fighters, IMO
Sorrowful sight.
