Natalie Portman will Become the Next Female Thor
Breitbart ^ | 07/22/2019 | Warner Todd Huston

Marvel Studios has announced that actress Natalie Portman will take up the hammer and replace Chris Hemsworth as Thor God of Thunder.

Portman, who played Thor’s love interest Jane Foster in the first Thor film, has kept herself at arm’s length from the Marvel Cinematic Universe since her debut in 2011. Disney owns Marvel Studios. She has been so skittish about returning to the MCU that filmmakers had to use old footage and special effects to add her to the flashback scenes in its Summer blockbuster Avengers: Endgame.

But at San Diego’s famed Comic Con this weekend, Marvel Studios announced that Portman will return to the MCU for the next Thor movie and she will be replacing Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder.

As the Associated Press noted, “Portman, who played Jane in the first two Thor films, will be remerging as the female Thor. She ran out on stage to thunderous applause and accepted the hammer from a kneeling Taika Waitit.” According to the casting list, Hemsworth will appear and star in Thor 4.

That was far from the only news announced during the Marvel panel at Comic Con. Also announced is that MCU’s first officially gay superhero will be affirmed. The character, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), has already been seen on the screen but will be confirmed as gay in an upcoming film.

In other gender-swapping movie news, EON Productions announced this month that the next 007 Spy will be portrayed by a black female.

Yes I’m trying to keep an open mind but Valkyrie was not a leader in the movie, then suddenly they made Thor a fat drunk and he tells her “I’m not a leader, you’re a leader”.

Next they retired Captain America and of course he turned the Avengers over to a black guy.

Captain Marvel and her gf appear to be gay.

Valkyrie will rule as a lesbian.

Oh yeah killed (straight) Black Widow.

A lot of the new characters will be Asian to sell in China.

Oh forgot Tony Stark had to die. Privileged straight white guy.

Enough.

“A lot of the new characters will be Asian to sell in China.”

I have a lot of Shang-Chi comic books. I very much enjoyed the Moench/Gulacy run. Very good comic books. Plus, the real Mandarin will be the villain - an all-time Marvel classic. Don’t worry. I don’t think China will take over the Marvel Universe. They’re more likely to take over South America.

Black Widow has a solo movie coming out. That seems kind of strange, given what happened to her in Endgame. Her fate may very well affect her box office. We’ll see. The character has an interesting backstory.

I agree with everything else you said.

The only more blase actress they could have anointed would be Ashley Judd.

It’s hard to see how she will bulk up for this role.

Having Valkyrie be gay is not really a surprise. I read somewhere that in the movie, she will be looking for a Queen. I presume that means she’s regent of new Asgard that is now located on earth (Norway, I believe).

The only character that could be queen of Asgard would be Natalie Portman, because she would be able to lift the hammer.

Comic book. Not real. Thor not real. Batman not real. Only a comic and a movie.

Thor is not a comic book character. A comic book was created after the character Thor from Norse mythology. Most of the characters that appear in the comic book are not original to comic book as they come from the mythology surrounding the Norse gods. The comic book came later.

Ignorance is bliss, sometimes. Stupidity is never curable.

Combine with the announcement that Valkyrie is bisexual and I’ll put dollars to donuts they have a love scene or two.

I am kind of bummed that Chris Helmsworth is ending his role as Thor. I haven’t seen a lot of the Thor movies, but looking at clips of early Thor vs. recent Thor, he has developed into a good actor. He can be funny, he can be dramatic, he is very well rounded now.

Many movie characters are spun from original male roles to women - this movie for example, Superman, Ghostbusters, or hundreds of others

But are there any female roles, superheroes, or even general movie characters at all - whose spin-offs go from being first women to then men?

What does that tell us about Hollywood and society in general?

I’m not so sure he’s ending it. Do you know something, I don’t?

I agree with you that his Thor has been a great character despite, well, becoming a little plump for a movie.

Journey into Mystery is now Journey into Misery.

The Mighty Thor is now The Mighty Boor.

The God of Thunder is now The God of Blunder.

Avengers: Endgame was the authentic Ragnarok.

Obviously thor in the comic book is not the same norse god. So don't try to mix and match. Don't try to argue that 'thor' is real, next you'll argue Dracula in marvel is 'real' or authentic. All characters are creations entirely in a comic book and aren't the same characters in our realm of mythos.

As Nick Fury once said (in Winter Soldier): I noticed.

This was all about vilifying the white male. They would never, ever humiliate an iconic hero like Black Panther or Captain Marvel that way.

A 1500-year-old Norse God became a 30-year-old Couch Potato.

Endgame was the end of the prevalence of white male characters: setting up Phase 4 to be non-stop communistic redistribution of nobility and authority to anyone other than a heterosexual white male.
