It could be a loooooong summer for CBS.
The network’s big new reality dating show Love Island debuted to only 2.7 million viewers and a 0.6 among adults 18-49 on Tuesday night.
That’s a lot less than recent episodes of other summer broadcast reality fare such as ABC’s The Bachelorette (1.5 in the demo), CBS’ Big Brother (1.2) and NBC’s America’s Got Talent (1.4), and seems especially low for a publicized series premiere.

What the networks are finding out is that real life has gone far beyond reality shows.
A smart network would go in the opposite direction - old fashioned and wholesome. You can be entertaining but not cheap or sleazy. For example, “I Love Lucy.”
If they rewrote the show to Mirror Epstein and Orgy Island, complete with Clinton Look Alikes and 12-13 yr old girl sex slaves, it would be the Hottest show on TV!
Pretty much how Dancing With The Stars went downhill.

It's easier to run with the herd than to anticipate a trend change. Timing is important, too. If you catch the turn, you win; if you don't, you get trampled by the herd (or in this case, ignored by the viewers and by the advertisers).
Of course, wholesome would be better for society, but the lowest common denominator of viewer is still all aflame for stimulation and change at this time, IMHO.
Fifteen years ago, it was pointed out that 75% of the “contestants” on The Bachelor have S.A.G. cards. Only the willfully deluded fail to understand that these shows are auditions - filled with cheesy overacting and weak, repetitive scripts.
Early on, I saw five minutes of the Anna Nicole Smith reality show, and couldn't understand (a) why they would let that sad, drug addicted person to degrade herself on television, and (b) why someone with so many problems would hold themselves up to ridicule like that. I understand the appeal of porn, but I don't understand the appeal of watching human train wrecks.
I'll confess that I do enjoy the home remodeling reality shows, even though I know they're scripted and fake, also.

I have a library full of Forensic Files and I’m not afraid to use it.
The Jerry Springer-esque shows would seem to indicate there are a fair share of people willing to do that for a little fame.
I exclusively watch British shows, but I sure don’t watch that one or any of their bad reality shows. Of course this doesn’t count their historical shows like Time Team or Walking Through History!
Did worse than that pilot for an 80s prime time series called Love Island, which was another network’s attempt at their own version of “Love Boat” and “Fantasy Island”.
They go on the bachelor to promote their brand.
