Views of the various rooms of the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston to the first theme of Bach's Goldberg Variations (Aria). This will be the first of three MFA videos. Another video will show works on view, and the third will show works that are NOT on view. It's an absolutely wonderful museum with great Egyptian, American and Japanese art.

I once set aside a whole day to visit there. Spent the whole morning on the lowest floor where the pre-Christian art was. It has forever impressed on me how significantly Christianity has changed everything. All the primitive artwork was about man-devouring demons needing to be appeased with blood sacrifice, sex and wealth. “I saw Satan fall from the sky like lightning,” said the Lord, as He overthrew all of that. (And the rest of the museum was great, too.)

But they must be hiding all the great African Art. My recollection is that the things they did display were childish and/or primitive.

Everyone to their own taste. I avoid your pictures and totally get off on primitive Egyptian, Chinese and Greco Roman art. My absolute adoration is ancient Chinese vessels with animalistic masks. But the joy of that place is that everyone can go into their own nirvana.

To get from the entrance I use, I have to go thru 3 galleries of African art. Most don't interest me, but there was a magnificent robe and a lovely gold figure.

The website says that on Wednesdays after 4PM admission is “by voluntary contribution”. IIRC I didn't pay anything on the Wednesday afternoon I visited...long ago.

I knew I couldn’t handle the walking for a quick visit, so I got the membership for 2. I’ve been using Thursday pm and evening, since they’re open till 10pm, and the crowds haven’t been too bad.

If snowybear sets up another Boston meeting, their restaurant would be a great place to meet.

The gold piece looks Egyptian to me. I don't consider Egyptian culture to be part of African culture.
